OK, how can car rental companies do this??

Yesterday I booked my car through Alamo yesterday with the intention of checking on a regular basis for a better deal through Alamo or any of the other dealers. Yesterday I booked for my stay $281...and change. Well I checked today and it was up over $400???? How can this be??? I double checked my dates, vehicle etc.... I could see it fluctuate a bit but wow.....
anyone else had this experience??? The 281 is more then I wanted to pay cause last year it was only $200..on the dot but I wanted to get under $250 so I will keep checking but that was too much.

Boy am I glad I booked yesterday.

You did the right thing by booking it. There's no penalty to cancel.

I have a reservation for Nov 26 to Dec 2, it was $132 a couple of weeks ago (down from $180 at the end of Jan). I checked it last night, hoping it went down, it was well over $200!
