Ok, help me rough it please

Looks like our well pump got hit by lightning or died.
Can't leave for a hotel due to the dogs.
Help me out, what can I do for water?

Take containers to your neighbor's and see if they will let you fill them up.

Or go to Wal-Mart and buy some gallon jugs of it.

Do you have a neighbor who would let you hook up a hose to run inside for a few days? If so, do what we do in hurricanes: buy some gallon jugs of drinking water and fill up the bathtub to use for flushing toilets, washing hands(in a bucket) and washing dishes(in a bucket.) See if your neighbors will let you all come over for showers, too. Hope you get your pump back quickly!

Well, I made the bright idea to try to scoop up water from the pool in a big bucket. Epic fail with the aftermath of a back injury.
I live in the woods so no neighbors to hook up a hose to.
I hear civilization is nice and has caught on

A lot of hotels will take dogs. Do you have any State Parks near you with bathroom facilities? If so, how about camping until your pump is fixed.

If you belonged to a gym (and I know that's a big if) you could take showers there, and just use the gallon jugs of water you can buy for cooking and flushing toilets.

Do you have any friends/family in town that would let you fill up some gallon jugs?

However I don't camp, this is why I am soooo at a loss. Thanks for the suggestion though!

When it happened to us we filled jugs. Water in toilets was about 2 gallons if I remember and it worked for 2 flushes.

Not having water was worse than no electricity for me. The first day was the worst. Bet of luck to you! Hope it isn't a terribly expensive fix (ours was!!- but we replaced pipe)

We have a pool, but thats really killing my back.
Right now I am boiling macaroni on the side burner on the deck.
I hate this!

Put the puppies in the kennel and you in a hotel. That way you all have a roof over your head and you have access to a shower.

Ugh, we replaced a relay??? Now DH is off to home depot for one last resort.
So much for planning a trip in Feb huh

The nearest Hilton with a trip am and pm to walk and feed the dogs, lol....JK I know the pains of a dry well and it wasn't a quick fix

I'd stock up on gallon jugs...

Flush only when brown and sponge bathe only when necessary.

That should get you through a couple of days.


When I lived in PA as a kid, our well would always run dry on very hot days--so often no water in the daytime and very rarely no water at night. (no idea what was up with that--but it occurred both summers). Our landlord brought us huge barrels of water. We also were in a rural area.

Of course I never took my baths at night and realized after a while that I should indeed do that since my parents never reminded me. Or the next day I would just be filthy all day long.

And then when we had Hurricane Hugo in SC--same deal. No water for a week or more. (power was out for 2 weeks, I think our water came back before that long.) We had filled up the tubs but those dang drains didn't close completely and we had nothing but an inch of water remaining after the storm.

By the end of the week--my step-dad was so in need of wanting to bath that he went to the neighborhood pond and bathed there. Needless to say, the rest of us just carried on patiently.

We live in country- have a well and have been without power enough that I always keep a small barrel of water in the back of a closet that we can drag out when needed....... Is your pool above ground- if it is you can stick a garden hose in and syphon the water down into a pail rather than scooping. You can also buy a pump or maybe you have one that you use to get the water off your pool cover or do you have any sort of pond use that pump? Here they are called submersible utility pumps and just hook up to garden hose and drop into your pool- then could fill up bathtub in house for toilet flushing -they cost around $60 or so-if you have Harbor Freight Tools near you we have bought pumps there. Drinking water we just buy big jugs at grocery store. One time we had well/pump trouble - called for help turns out the pipes that run down 75 feet just broke off so pump was fine they just needed to fish out the pipes and hook back up. Being without water is AWFUL! Hopefully you will be fixed soon!!
