We are going to disney July26 - Aug.3. My mom told me today that she would like to go with us. I was so excited when she told me! She is worried that she wont be able to convince my dad. He is not a big ride person. I told her that is not all disney has to offer. Help my think of things that a 65 year old would like to do at disney. Any and all suggestions would really help.

My mom is 75 and she loves WDW! She has sciatica, so cannot get around as well as she used to. Here’s a partial list of options:

o Shopping! Even browsing is fun because the stores are so varied and have such interesting merchandise. Or go offste to the outlets.
o Pools – pool-hopping is fun, but just using your resort pool can be a relaxing way to spend some time. Most have hot tubs, too. And slides, if they are really energetic! ;) And the waterparks are super fun…..lolling on an inner tube is soooo relaxing. :smooth:
o Boating – rent a boat for a few hours and just relax on the waterways.
o Take a tour – they are lots of fun and are available for all kinds of interests – gardening, animation, cooking.
o Sampling all the wonderful places to eat – really, there are so many places that are fun and offer opportunities to broaden horizons and try new things. :earboy2:
o Take in Cirque du Soleil
o Play miniature golf
o Visit the Boardwalk
o Visit the different resorts – a favorite of mine!
o Go to a dinner show – Hoop-dee-Doo is fabulous!
o Don’t feel the need to keep up with everyone else. Do what feels right, what you enjoy and remember this is your vacation too! Taking it easy when you want to is definitely okay!
:p

My Step-Dad grumped for months before our first trip to WDW. He kept saying "what am I going to do at WDW? I don't like rides!" I was so tired of hearing him complain about it. Well, he didn't say much during or after our return (he never does say much) and I just happened to be talking on the phone with WDW a few months later making our reservation for our next trip when he called to ask me something. I told him I was on the phone with WDW making our reservations, I jokingly said should I book one room or two? He laughed and told me to call him back when I got off the phone. Well when I called him back he told me he had called me mom at work and then asked if I could call them back and book two rooms? I was in shock! I later talked to my mom and she told me he absolutely loved the place and they have gone back every year with us since then. He doesn't go on any of the rides, he does see some of the shows and things, but basically he just relaxes and takes it all in.

My 70 year old parents have been to WDW many times over the years, and really enjoy it. My dad claims he is not a ride person (however, last year he went on Space Mtn and Big Thunder Mtn for the first time and said he loved them!! :earseek: ).

Anyway, before discovering my dad liked Space Mtn, my parents have really enjoyed the Animal Kingdom, especially the slow-pace of the walking trails in Africa and Asia. They also love to meander around the World Showcase at Epcot, watch the films, try some different foods, etc. Spaceship Earth and the Living Seas are also interesting for the older folks.

In the Magic Kingdom (which they only go to if they are with the grandkids), my parents really enjoy the Pirates and the Haunted Mansion. These are not traditional rides and they really enjoy the attention to detail, especially in the Haunted Mansion. Also, a must see is Mickey's Philharmagic. This was a big hit with both my parents AND my husband's parents (who went to WDW for the first time this winter). My folks also enjoy It's a Small World.

MGM is probably our least favorite park, but it does have shows (not rides) that may be enjoyable for your dad. Also, lunch at the Brown Derby will make you forget you're in a theme park (complete with table linens and a piano player).

Have fun convincing him to go. :flower:

We just got back and we took my 80 year old mother-in-law along. She had a great time. We did PS at some great sit-down restuarants, end really enjoyed the fireworks and parades.

We rode many of the non-thrill rides that I normally would have not gone on, but still had great time. Several rides she did not want to go on, so we would split up a short time while she shopped and I took advantage of the single's lines. Some rides we just skipped, but that was OK too.

At MGM and AK, there are alot of shows and walking things to do, plus lots of shopping, and many of the rides are more like shows (Ellen's Universe of Energy and Epcot, for one), to keep everybody in the family entertained.

Enjoy your trip!

My cousin came with us to see the expressions on our kids face:) I don't do rides either (I'm a big baby), but I really just love watching my kids. The first time my dd saw Cinderella at CRT..she was just like that child on the commerical who is talking, talking but when he meets Mickey he doesn't say anything. That's her!!!!! She talks so much this kid talks in her sleep!! She met Cindy..nada, nothing, maybe a meek 'hi'. I actually have a pic, I'll have to try and post it. She's all bug eyed and stuff. That I have to say is why we go to Disney! I'm sure he'll have a *great* time, even if he just hangs at the resort!
Have fun and I'll throw some pixie dust your way..however I do that :) :wizard: :wizard:
