I've read countless post after post and thread after thread about the extreme rudeness that goes on in the mini games, most notably pirates. People think "ooh staff aren't watching me in this game and people can't report me while we're playing so let's go crazy!! Woo!". Obviously staff are doing little to nothing about this issue (and i'm usually on staff's side on these kind of issues) so we need to take matters into our own hands. No I don't mean go crazy and stoop to the other people's level, but here's some tips that I think can help cut down on this problem.
1. Write the offender's name down!!!! I can't stress this enough. There actually is a place where you can type in the players name rather than just click the person and report them from there. If it means losing the game because you are writing someone's name down, it's worth it because it may keep the streets of vmk safe from that one person.
2. Don't tell the person you are reporting them. Countless times I've seen arguments heat up 10 times worse when someone says they are going to report someone. The offender either makes up excuses, or rags on the reporter for tattle-tailing, etc... and it's just not a good picture.
3. Don't always use the Ignore button. Ok I know all the VMK staff will yell blasphemy at me for saying this, but I'm saying it. Half the time when you can't see the other person talking, you can miss something that he/she says that is twice as offensive as the original thing they say, that may break the VMK values big time by depicting explicit acts, words, etc.
4. Remind the person that it's just a game. This only mostly works with the small offenders who may just say you're bad at the game or a baby for running, but this statement has worked for me in the past.
5. Don't report every little thing. Remember, you may not take the person's sentance or statement the way they meant it. We've seen it right here on our board where someone was talking about calling someone "ugly" in the game meaning rude or offensive, but staff took it literally as calling another player unnattractive. Take time to read what the person is saying and try your best not to take it out of context.
I really hope these tips help because i know this is a problem that very many VMK'ers struggle with, and it's sad to see people get frustrated over the people who disregard VMK values and get away with it. It's just sad, but can we do anything about it? Not really. Can we make sure that we don't stoop to the other people's level? Yes we can, and that's the point I'm trying to make here.
