Yes you can hear the Ding if your right next to your speakers .But the best way is if you look down on your Icons by your clock your will see a SWA tail section .

When you get a ding it will have an evelop type letter appear ,click on that and your Ding will open up

also when I registered it asked about the airport.... I put phl(philly) and then the zip... my zip code was I supposed to put the zipcode for the airport and not mine?

Your Zip is just fine .Sometimes they only Ding your airport and those close to you.But most of the time they list all avail. Dings.
