OK DisGeeks! What are the things that ONLY we Disers know?

So here's one that I have never seen mentioned on the disboards, but DH and I do this everytime....during MNSSHP or MVMCP, everyone always talks about how they "herd" everyone into one location for an hour. But, you can still walk around the rest of the park. The park gets a bit empty, so it's nice for relaxing, taking pictures with few people in the way....AND quite often, they continue to run the rides. It just depends on the CMs...for example, the last trip, we did MNSSHP two different nights...the first night, they wouldn't let us on BTMR when we tried at 6:30, but the second night, they ran it non-stop and we just rode it over and over, then went to the next ride and they were running it too. Most people just sit in the area you are sent to, but sometimes the other areas are still running. Again, dont' expect it everytime, because sometimes the CMs will say no, but the majority of the time we have been able to ride still during the hour shutdown time.

Things I learned before our trip in 2004

1) Buying Pal Mickey off Ebay to take with us and being the envy of everyone around us who thought he was awesome but had never heard of him.

2) If you go to the first seating of PSB at Epcot ask if your dd can be "Princess of the Day". If they have not picked anyone else your child may get to do it. Mine did and it was the most magical memory of our whole trip.

3) Going to Disney-whoo hoo! Meeting the Mouse-Awesome
Giving "Beverly" to my dh to drink.....Priceless LOL!

Some of my favorites:

- how to print an internet coupon for buy one/get one free sundaes at the Ghirardelli's in Downtown Disney

- that it saves money and time to take Magical Express upon arrival at MCO, then pick up a National rental car at the Dolphin the second day of the vacation. . . and on the last day, return it at MCO airport (gives me an extra hour in the park on that last day!)

- that you don't have to use up a separate park admission if you have a ticket for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

- how to time your dinner ressie at the outdoor patio of Rose and Crown in order to have a great view of Illuminations

Fill-in your first and last name, birthday and REGARDLESS of where you live put that you live within 50 miles of one of their shops. If you put that you don't live within 50 miles you won't get the coupon for the sundaes. Also, you will get a coupon for your birthday too. How about that the 100th family seated in the Plaza Rest. in MK gets a certificate, (I think a free desert and a photo, etc.) Hildegard and Penelope Prose came and made a big deal over them! This happened just a week ago.

Here's one I learned about on my last trip...in the pre-show room of Muppet Movie, if you look up into the rafters, you can find a large hanging portrait---it's a muppet version of Jim Henson.

As far as I know there are 2 versions of Pal Mickey. The original which we used for our trip in 2004 was a lot of fun to have. This time we went with the newer version which was made for the 50th year celebration (he has a tux on and is supposed to be a little smaller.) I got mine from a family who used it for one trip for about 1/2 the retail value. If you don't mind the older version they can tend to go for very reasonable prices on Ebay. I remember a rumor last year that they were going to make a Minnie one but that never happened so I don't know about a Goofy one.

The guidebooks say 7:30 but just so you know only around 30 percent of the tables are outside and they will NOT let you wait for one. I sat with a large guiness next to the hostess one day while I waited for my table and listened to everyone of the people come up ask to sit outside. Another time I was seated not far behind the podium on the patio ( but not lagoonside) and listened to this woman berate the hostess that she was GUARANTEED a patio seat. Whenever you make a ADR there, they have a speil about no quaranteed patio seating. I've seen people being seated in the restaurant and then leave because they aren't outside.

I go there once or twice a trip because I love the pie and beer samplers. Part of our tradition. If I'm outside fine, if not, still fine.

Actually we were there last week and saw people getting turned away on Sat Oct 7th for fastpasses that expired earlier in the day for Buzz. If it gets too busy, they will only allow people within the time frame in or close to it. Most of the time, they let you go in and barely check but if you are there on a busy night, they don't let people with 1pm fastpasses in at say 8pm. I think too many people are trying this now and by the end of the night last week the fastpass line was almost to Stitch it was too crazy!!! I was actually happy they are starting to tighten up on this. At Rockin Rollercoaster, I was there 30min after the expiration and she wasn't going to let me go at first - I then explained that I was there an hour ago and the ride was temporarily closed (which it was) so we went to see Beauty in the Beast - so then she said okay.

I know when we went in May they weren't strict so I am not sure if they are changing or just tightening up when it is super busy.

I'll second that. It depends on how big the FP line is and how big the crowd is for the day. You can try it if you'd like but I wouldn't bank on it.

When we were there in July they were very strict about FP. I think we set a record time going from Mexico to Sorin so our FP would not expire.

There are lots of online sources for this type of information, like the Disboards, TourGuyMike, touringplans.com; some of the information is free, some isn't. Like many, I've learned from multiple sources, including my own experience, over the years. While there are detailed plans, almost all of the strategies boil down to: get up early, catch the first bus that leaves your resort, be at the park before the rope drops, know which attractions/rides you want to do, do them in an orderly fashion, and you'll have hit all or most all of them in time for an early lunch.

Beyond this, some folk recommend taking advantage of the early EMH while some avoid them. I mix them up, depending on my itinerary and which parks I'm visiting, but in general I find that extra hour - used wisely -very helpful and then I get out of the park before the extra volume of people that EMH attracts builds up too much.
