ok come on lets talk wine

I do definitely think there are "good" wines but it is still reasonable to drink whatever one likes whether or not it's "good".

I like Sauvignon Blanc if drinking a white, and something decent and heavy if drinking red eg a Chateau Neuf de Pape which is my favourite. Champagne I like Mumm best of all - better even than Bolinger which DH bought at three times the price for my birthday !

Gill, you may enjoy Terre des Papes as an alternative to Chateau Neuf, it's from the Andre Roux vineyard and in my opinion as good if not better than the exalted one!

Florida Lol

I think that you definitely get bad wines. But as other have said when it comes to a good wine this is all down to your own taste.

I do find it funny though that some people can so snobbish about wines. Surely you drink wine to relax and enjoy yourselves. So surely you should drink something you like (even if it is Ribena) not something that was expensive and is from the "right" vineyard but that you think tastes awful.

We've got two separate debates going on here. Of course we all have different tastes - I really can't take to Sauvignon Blanc no matter how hard I try. However, I can tell the difference between cheaper Sauvignons and more expensive ones.

I think Sauvignon Blanc taste like wood, don't know why. :confused3

Neither Gavin or I can bare wine wereas his Mum & Dad buy it by the crateful and enjoy most on one level or another which means we always have a plan B Christmas present :thumbsup2

Let me lower the tone for all uou wine buffs!

A friend who was really into wine - big time - once told me that when choosing red wine feel the bottom of the bottle. The deeper the dent the better the wine - regardless of price.

I've followed this rule for 7 years and I've never come across a wine I didn't like. If the bottom is flat we leave well alone.

My DH and I laugh as we choose a wine from the supermarket. We pick up the bottles (usually on special) and look like we're studying the label but realling we're feeling the bottom! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Try it next time and let me know if you liked the wine!

Will have to try this next time :thumbsup2 I am sooo not a wine buff, if I like the taste I will buy it again, if I don't I won't :thumbsup2 I never have any idea what I'm looking for, and more often than not, I look for a nice bottle design  I love red wine but it makes my arms ache :rotfl: so I tend to stick to white or rose.

Will need to remember that :thumbsup2

I was told that once as well and its something that always comes back to me when I'm trying to choose a wine, so far I haven't come across one that I really disliked so maybe its down to that

If you want to try a decent red wine that will not give you bad head try Il Papavero, we love riojas too but for a special day we like an El Bombero or a Le XV du President.
Good whites we've had include the Colombella Pinot Grigio's, Estamplla Torrontes and Sauvingon Blanc, Grand Gaillard semillon-sauvignon blanc and their Merlot, Farnese Trebbiano and Albastrele Pino Grigios :thumbsup2 All of them have the "thumb print" dent moulded into the bottom of the bottles and many still use proper corks in the bottles.
