We had a room at BCV until Dec. 14. But was waiting to cancel, airfare, etc any changes. I cancelled on the Nov 11. I didn't realize it had to be 30 days from the start of the stay, not 30 days from the actual date. So now I have 36 points in holding. We never ever make short term trips. I'm unhappy . Off by a few days. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Just for don’t get dinged again in the future - it is not 30 days, but it is 31 days prior to your check in date.

31+ Days Before Check-In Date​	All Vacation Points used to make the reservation, including borrowed Vacation Points, will be returned to your account in the Use Year in which the reservation falls.​

Not the whole trip, just the last night. Had planned until Saturday, but trying to get grand daughter down, but school interfered, rotten college lol….so I canceled last night. She was only maybe coming for a few days. But the stay started on the 8, I cancelled on the 11 th,

In the future, you may consider making any tentative days as a separate reservation so you have until 30 days prior to the start of the last tentative day.

Good idea. Not sure if it would have worked in this case. BCV is not a home resort and trip is in early Dec. At one point for that week we were making four moves, I stalked and waitlist to get all the days at BCV. If I saw two days open, I was not going to grab one day and wait until the next day to try to book. And we don't have enough points to book these days with me as lead name and book those days with DH as lead name.

My DD is willing to take one for the team and take a very short time in planning trip. At least my use year is Dec, so the points are fresh, she has plenty of time to use them.

But the point of renting, we need to figure out how to do that. Even though the kids get a "free" room, with ticket prices, food and transportation, I don't think they will be doing that many disney trips. Unless a miracle occurs , this will be our last trip. Just too hard for DH even with every other day as a rest day.

One of those, "I thought I knew the rules", but once again was wrong. But yes, there could be others new to DVC and thought like I did. I only have been a member for ummmmm 18 years. Guess I'm a really slow learner.

If you have other points, you can try to use the holding points trick: book something within 7 months, then 60 days prior checkin modify the reservation, leave everything as is and it should swap current points for holding points.
Not guaranteed it'll work when you need it, but currently it does. Might be a bug that could be fixed anytime.

I just joined this club too re upcoming trip in Dec.

just wanted to knock off 2 days. Never dawned on me it ran this way. We quickly zigged back to our original plans

Yeah, I was wrong either way.

But to be the 5 year old and say "not fair".....if we had been doing a multi split stay, we would have been ok. So those who do 2 weeks in one resort have to plan really far out for that last day.
