we still havent closed on our house but when we do I want to be ready! lol

so I have a few questions that I would like your opinion on please

1) Have you ever seen a pot rack hanging from a vaulted ceiling?
This is the one Im looking at...

Do you think that would work? I love the look but just not sure how it would look with vaulted ceiling. It would be over a breajfast nook btw.


2) What do you think about colours in a great room situation? My living room looks into my dining room/kitchen area there are some breaks but its hard to tell. Should I paint it all the same colour? Im leaning towards a calm beige for the LR I think it might work for all the rooms though too.

3) One room is maroon its really quite stunning but I cant match the paint to save my life! Ive taken over about 60 paint chips none of them work and they only painted one coat so even if I did manage to match it it isnt even so Im going to have to do something to even the paint out. Im thinking about ragging a colour over it to mask the spots. What do you think and what colour would you suiggest?

I know I have a lot of questions but Im just curious what you would do with the delimas Im facing lol.

Binny, I'm not much of a decorator, but I know what you are going thru. We are in the process of getting new carpet and painting some rooms. What a headache! I do like that pot rack thing, but I don't know about haning it from a vaulted ceiling.

BTW, does anybody have maroon carpet? What is your opinion on that color. People are telling us we will be constantly picking up lint and stuff. Also anybody with carpet in the bathroom? I mean my aim is pretty good, but Seth is only 6.

Don't mean to steal your tread Binny, but I guess I need some opinions too.

I'm not a decorator, but I'll give you my best. lol

I'll do what I think is easiest first.
3) Since you can't match it, and you really need to, I'd paint over it. You could use a maroon similar, something you like and do it right.
You wouldn't have to rag it then, unless you want to. And if you do want to rag it, how about using a flat or eggshell base coat, and for the ragging, use a semi-gloss. It would add texture but you wouldn't have to worry about the color.

1) I think that would work, but it's hard for me to picture. I guess it would depend on how high the ceiling is.

2) Beige would work for all of it. I do think it's best to paint it all one color. The rooms are almost one room and personally I think it looks better all one color.
But beige can be boring. What other colors were you planning on using in those rooms? As accents I mean.

NO carpet in the bathroom! major pet peeve of mine lol I always go by the rule that even if MY kid has good aim, he has friends! lol so I always put washable rugs in the bathroom.

My friend had green carpet and said it was worst decision she had ever made that she was constantly picking lint and the stains just really showed through. Im a bug fan of varigated carpet

Depending on the size of the bathroom, you can get washable cut to fit carpet. We have it in our powder room because the tile is UGLY! Does anyone want to retile it for me?

well my kitchen accents are mainly blue and yellow ( original eh? but I love them)

my dining room is pretty much the same.

My living room has blues and maroons in there. ( we like blue lol)

Mhopset, from personal excperience I wouldn't put carpetting in a bathroom. We had some in the kitchen, it was there when we moved in, and hated it.

You might like it, but I think a small rug would be better, for me at least. lol

The varigated carpetting is what I plan on using for each and every other carpet I get. Even if the carpet is one color as long as it has light and dark shades of it I'll be happy.

I love blue!

How about instead of the beige with the yellow and blue, you paint the rooms a pale, light, yellow or blue. Either one will work and look nice.

This is what I'm picturing with the light blue. Sort of like a sky blue sky with sunflowers and blueberries. Add a touch of strawberry, and a green plant or two and it would look great. Or I hope, that's the same ideas I have for mine, when I get to that point. lol

I went to a friends house last night and she has a sage colour in her LR and DR but two walls are MARROON DARK DARK DARK marroon Im not sure I like it lol.

I don't want dark colors in my house either. I want light, bright and cheery.

I've seen dark colors in magazines and such, and it looks pretty there, but I don't know if I could handle living with it.

I mean is there a reason I know obviosuly taht one end would be longer than the other I saw one at a show house and she had decorated it with vies and such and it actually was quite nice but that is the only one Ive seen on a vaulted so thas why Im curious, Have you seen it where it didnt work?

1) The biggest issue here would be height. If it's a steep vault, you won't be able to reach your pans and it could look a little funny, since it would detract from the ceiling. If it's low, I don't see why not.

2) We have a great room with breakfast nook and kitchen all in one room, and I definitely think that one color works best. Right now, we have a creamy off-white, almost parchment color. It's a bit too light. I want to repaint it khaki, but I have to wait until I'm not pregnant.

3) I think ragging on (or ragging off) would be great if you like the base color. It's so easy since you don't have to worry about streaks or anything. We've ragged off in one room and sponged on in another and love the effect. For ragging off, you just paint with a roller, then you blot it off with the cheesecloth. It's actually a bit faster than ragging on and still looks great. The top color you choose depends on the effect you want. If you'd like to lighten it, I'd go for something in a white to dark beige. You can practice with a small sample of a similar color to get it right.
