This year we are going to use the DDP for the first time. I have a 9 year old- very athletic-son, who will be on the plan too. Last year, the kids' menu items just weren't enough for him. Out of pity and to save expense, I shared many of my meals with him. Unfortunately, I was often hungry all afternoon. This year, on the plan, he will be locked into the child's portion. (I don't want to upgrade to an adult ticket because of the expense.)

Can anyone please recommend counter service places that truely have large portions, so I can share without leaving hungry? I would like to hear from big eaters who have eaten at many, many places who have experienced different portion sizes.

I've read lots of reviews where light eaters shared all their meals. Truthfully, we are big eaters, so I would most like to hear from other big eaters!

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your opinions!

DH is a big eater, I'm not so much. However, I can usually finish most of my meal and then DH will finish the rest. So, even though I'm not a big eater, it takes 2 CS meals to feed both DH and I because I feel that most CS meals aren't real big.

One exception I can think of is Cosmic Rays 1/2 Chicken and BBQ Rib Combination. While it wouldn't quite fill both of us up, with an extra side, it probably would. With that and your son's kids meal, it might work for y'all to share.

I also noticed on the menu for Sunshine Seasons at The Land in Epcot that they have a plate with 2 entrees and 2 sides. Combined with his kids meal, maybe that would work.

Can't really think of anywhere else. SORRY!

In MK, Cosmic Rays Chicken and Ribs dinner is plenty for two big eaters to share.

Also the Rib meals at Flame Tree in AK are very large.

In Epcot the Sunshine Seasons had some large sandwiches made with cold cuts and specialty breads that looked large enough for two.

If you go to Coronado Springs and eat at Pepper Market, many of their serving sizes are large. Once they start serving the dinner menu, you can get a nice Prime Rib dinner with roasted peppers and onions, a stuffed baked potato and a large cookie and drink for 1 CS credit. In the afternoons they usually have a steak that could be split. Our DD's got some kind of Italian folded over pizza like thing that was huge!

In Disney Studios, Well good luck there. I can't find a place to feed one no doubt two!:rotfl:

Hi - I'm not a big eater, but I thought I'd let you know that the counter service credits are pooled. That means your 9 year old son can get an adult size counter service meal anywhere.

I realized this about half way through our trip and purchased only adult counter service meals for the remainder of the trip.

This won't help when you do TS, but if he can fill up with his CS meal, maybe he won't be hungry when he has to eat his wimpy TS meal!

When did you go? From my understanding, they discontinued the "pooling" of credit Jan. 06. I have been told that they are now specifically separated into adult and child.

I was just there - 1/25-1/30. We ate CS meals one day and wasn't sure if the CM had charged them correctly (kids vs adults) and I went to the front desk at WL. She gave me a printout of my credits and explained to me that the COUNTER SERVICE credits are not split into child vs adult.

Like I said, from then one, I used our CS credits only for adult meals and had no issues.

I was suprised that I had not heard about this anywhere on this board. Maybe it is a new change for 2008?

:rotfl2: only have to watch whats on room key say 2a +2C.if you try to get 4 adult meals they should refuse, but 2 people get 2 adults each no problem;) .this has been tha case since DDP inception in 2005,for accounting credits are the same for counter sevice, and they only seperated child table service last year

Ok, let me see if I have this correct. ( We are going in July and I have one Ds who is 9 and eats more than me and DH. :lmao: )
Dh will not be with us during the day, just at night, so I can use his adult CS credits for the DS9?? Thanks, Tina!:confused3

just be prepared knowing that the rules specifically state that children's credits are only to be used for items on the children's menu (if there actually is a children's menu, of course. not all CS have them). there certainly are ways to get around that, but wanted you to be aware that it is not within the specified guidelines which may be enforced at any time (fyi, i am not delving into the right/wrong issue ~ only preparing the OP with facts so she/he can make her/his own decision). :)
ETA: threads advocating ways to break the rules are being closed by the mods :thumbsup2

our favorite CS in all of WDW is wolfgang puck express in DTD. they do have a children's menu, but since the adult portion sizes are so big, you might want to share. tangierine cafe (EPCOT WS ~ morocco) also has huge adult portions (the chicken & lamb Shawarma Platteris is immense  ). another place with large portion sizes & good food is Cantina de San Angel (EPCOT WS ~ mexico) ~ hmmmmm, i thought they also had a children's menu, but don't see one listed on wdwig :confused3 .

also, you might be best off doing buffets for most of your TS, as he wouldn't be limited to a children's menu or portion size.

hth :)

I have a 9 year old boy, with a very developed taste for fine dining and a great appetite. (And he's the smallest boy in the entire 4TH grade. :confused3 ) I'm glad he will be 10 for our next trip and will gladly pay the adult DP price for him. The children's menus are so limited.

Anyway, buffets are great for kids with healthy appetites. We also took turns eating his CS meals, offering him our adult meals. Other times we paid out of pocket (OOP) for additional items, or, at TS meals, my husband or I would order an appetizer he like and let him have it.

It is true, the CS credits are not separated, but you can only order the number of adult credits listed on your card, at one time... you would need to get separate lines or get in line twice. It's up to you if you are comfortable with this, but I suspect this could change at any time.

Yes, you can use your husband's adult CS credits to purchase your son a CS meal.

Great! I tried to make all of my ADRs for TS buffets or places were there is not a Child's menu. When we went when he was 7, I had to eat his kids meals and he ate mine. Trust me the kids menu is horrible!

realy you are surposed to get what it states on card, but nothing to stop 2 adult ordering in 2 lines

to the OP... you might want to consider upgrading to the Deluxe Dining Plan... just those extra snacks could keep a growing boy's appetite at bay!
