My kids really don't need anything for Christmas. Of course we will still get them some toys but I was thinking of maybe getting them some "fundays" passes. Maybe Build a Bear Gift Cards or maybe a trip to a indoor waterpark. Any other ideas?

We love Kalahari in Sandusky, best indoor waterpark in the state. My kids like Cosi in Columbus. What about Cedar Point tickets for next summer...something for them to look forward to during our LONG Ohio winter. We have talked about doing a Blue Jackets hockey game, never have though. Just a thought. We have given DD's gift cards to a movie with a little note of dinner before at a restaurant of their choice. Thats always a hit.

I like your idea of the funday passes. We find our girls really enjoy the special getaways. They are soon to be 14 and just turned 12. This year for their birthdays, surprised them with tickets to see Taylor Swift at the Gund Oct 3. Probably one of the best reactions we have seen so far

I hope others have some great suggestions for you. Ohio really does have a lot to offer. Lisa

This is a great idea....hope that you don't mind if I steal it. No ideas to offer you for Ohio (I'm in Western PA, howdy neighbor) but my kids love movies, bowling, eating out for desert only.

A weekend in a cabin during the winter can be fun!
Find one with private sledding hills.

A day of tubing at Snow Trails?

Ice skating at the Chiller?

one of our favorite winter week-end getaways is a Cleveland Cavaliers game - go CAVS! My dad still lives up that way, so we go up early, find a fun place to eat and get to the game early. My kids like to watch warm-ups and we have gotten cool autographs from some players early before the game. Then we go back to my dads to spend the night and whatever the next day.

I don't know where in Ohio you are...there's Great Wolf in Mason, Cincinnati Zoo has a holiday lights display. B&B Riverboats and the Newport Aquarium are nearby to Cincy.

What about including a Zoo pass that would get you in all the Ohio zoos so the present would get stretched thru summer too.

We live in Columbus and do Fort Rapids in the winter. (they offer free admission on your birthday:)) There is also CocoKey not too far. I also just book a weekend at the Courtyard up the street, sounds bizarre but just a pool is nice sometimes to get away in the winter. I usually plan with a friend and the parents hang out while kids swim.

Cleveland I-X Center has a winter indoor amusement park. Think it's late Feb/March. Cleveland also a great system of museums. Their Metro Parks have graet winter activities too. Chardon has Alpine Valley Skiing. Bostom Mills near Akron has good skiing too, I think their is also a place near Mansfield.

I ditto the zoo, on warmer winter days it is great because the animals are more active than the hot summer months. We just bundle up and make an adventure of it!

Of course, Chuck E Cheese gift cards are always a hit with the kids!

Our local library had several great travel book about Ohio. My favorite is Kids Love Ohio, which has tons of unique travel ideas for the state divided in different geographical regions. There are so many great things we have done thanks to these books such as a trip to the Amish country, local museums, fossil sites, festivals etc.

Some of the places are free, but you could make "tickets" or certificates to be used over the summer. We usually designate summer Wednesdays for day trips that we have picked out ahead of time. It makes our summer fun and we get to explore our state.
