Well the planning for my October trip is going in full earnest and I want to try restaurants I have not eaten at before. One of these is Ohana for my first night (Sunday Oct 4) at Disney. Who has eaten there recently and what did you think about it? Is the food good or not so good?

Love 'Ohana and it is our tradional first night dinner. The food is delicious, full of flavor, and their bread pudding is amazing. :cloud9: DH is a foodie who doesn't like bread pudding and he even said it was good. :faint:

Ohana is an interesting concept in a very nice setting. The food is kind of..meh. I think it's possible to hit it on a good night, but after a number of visits over many years, it's pretty much off of our list. If the experience appeals to you you should try it, but if you are really wanting a fantastic meal, there are better choices.:earsboy:

Went for the first time during our trip last week and it was, by far, the worst meal and experience we ever had at Disney. If you enjoy having mediocre (at best) food thrown at you, give it a try. If you are on free dining, it's probably worth a TS credit. We weren't, so the $80 out of pocket made it even worse. We could have gotten better food at the Florida Mall food court.

Lots of people like it, but I can say with absolute certainty that we will never go back.

LOL; I know about meh. That's how I feel about Crystal Palace, Sci-Fi, and the Garden Grill. My first night I always go to MK and like to eat at a CS or a TS which is nearby. Ohana's seems to fit the bill.

I went there for the first time 2 weeks ago and I have to say it was mt FAVE meal of the entire trip. :goodvibes I can't stop raving about it. Every course was delicious, and I am the pickiest of picky eaters. If you are a meat eater, it's a must. The atmosphere is awesome and the Poly is gorgeous, so its an all around good time. We even saw and heard Wishes from our table by the window! The only thing I was unimpressed with was the service. We did not have a very attentive server (or attentive at all really) and it killed us to leave the tip we did. But hey, no place is perfect right? :)

BTW: my faves were the wings and the bread pudding!! YUM!! :thumbsup2

But it does go to show you this place is probably hit or miss. People that were there around the same time I was think the place was awful. I think it's about either taking a leap of faith, or going for a sure thing.

Kona Cafe at the Poly gets very good reviews around here. Also the Grand Floridian Cafe is good and it's not a "big production" like some of the themed dining(dunno if that's a negative or a positive for you):earsboy:

Kona Cafe and Grand Floridian Cafe are also on my list. Guess I'm looking for a perhaps almost impossible mixture of good food, "reasonable" prices, and nearness to MK.

:thumbsup2We ate breakfast & dinner at 'Ohana last week. We loved the breakfast the food was good and the character interaction great. It's in a great spot. We had dinner later that evening. The meal was very rushed. The noodles are very good as well as the salad, chicken wings and dumplings. Loved the dessert. However didn't care much for the rest. You should give it a try. Good Luck.

I wouldn't return for either bkfst or dinner. Don't get me wrong - the atmosphere is great - but the food is only mediocre, at best. Service is rushed, to say the least. :sad2:

Don't do it, I am begging you! We ate there a few weeks ago and it was horrible! The dumpling and the noodles were nothing more than frozen from the grocery store. The meat was either too fatty, or too dry. A I have NEVER felt more rushed through a meal in my life. I complained and got a free desert, fried banans big deal. I would rather have had my TS credit back. It was our first night in Disney and we were very excited to eat there. We hated it!!!!

As one of the nay-sayers I just want to emphasize that I think the Poly resort is incredible, and the atmosphere and theming of Ohana is "Tiki Cool".
I just wish the food and service measured up. :earsboy:

Tried Ohana a couple of years ago and loved it. Worked my butt off trying to get an online reservation for our trip end of August (finally successful) and really saw a decline in food and service.

The minute we sat down bread was delivered; about 30 seconds later we got salad and wings, and wontons. Not more than five minutes later the meats on a stick were served, then shortly after broccoli and noodles.

Have to be honest and say it was NOT worth the effort to get the ADR; the meats were overdone and tough and the meal felt VERY rushed. I'm sure part (if not most) of this had to do with free dining.

It was just myself and my fiance but I had such high hopes for this place given my previous experience. My fiance was not impressed with food nor service, but he did love Boma.

Just my opinion!

Our family ate there for the first time in Oct 07 and LOVED it. DH and I ate there this past Feb for our anniv. celebration and LOVED it. The only negative was they didn't have the fried wonton chips any more :sad2: Both times we ate kind of late and were able to watch the MK fireworks. Maybe we got lucky both times but it is def a MUST for my next trip!:woohoo:

Well, we have never eaten there (tried for the last two trips but could not get a ressie), but finally got one for our trip at the end of Oct. I just wanted to say that if you don't really...really... really... want to eat there, save yourself the stress and hassle of trying to get an ADR. It has become one of the most sought-after ADRs, just behind Le Cellier and ahead of CInderella's Castle. I booked my ADRs at 90 days plus, and the only 'Ohana I could get was for late at night. Good luck if you do try!

Yes or No?

YES!!!!

This is our hands down most favorite restaurant at WDW!! We book a later dinner time and sit at a window table so that we can enjoy wishes too.

Wow, Ohana's has such passionate reviews. Thanks to everybody who has given their opinions and their pictures. Looks like I will have to sleep on it.

We stayed at the poly on our last trip. We ate both breakfast and dinner there. I thought the breakfast was wonderful and our waitress was awesome. Dinner was also good we did eat very late into the evening. Not sure if that helped. Lots of mixed reviews which i'm a bit shocked at.

If I could make a suggestion though I would recommend eating at the wave!!!!!!!!

Hope your experience is a good one!

We ate there last Wednesday night - I agree with you Mpetti - loved the salad - best dressing I've ever had (lime/honey I think it was?). Noodles, wings, dumplings, dessert - all good. But the meat was only so-so - really needed the sauces - wasn't seasoned itself. We had a fun experience here, but the cost of the meal was $130 for our party of 5 and if I was dining OOP, I certainly wouldn't consider it. I wouldn't say it was bad, just not worth the cost.
