O'hana's - remind me why I didn't listen

'Ohana went from one of my favorites (1999-2004) to my biggest disappointment (Dec 2005) Wings, salad and dessert we good, though. It seems that the new substitutions are cheaper/less quality than in my previous trips. Stir fry or fresh sauteed green beans? Wonton chips or shrimp and veggie filled wonton dumplings? sweet and sour style shrimp or grilled jumbo shrimp skewers? It wasn't bad, (well, except for the sausage) everything else tasted okay, but it was very disappointing.

I ate there last Labor Day weekend and REALLY enjoyed it, so much that I wish I would of eaten there again, but it was time to go home. I will be going there this August for the second time and I am really looking forward to it.

I'm also going with an open mind. I've eaten there many times in the past 11 years so I'm hoping I'll love it as much as I always have. I'm hoping we love the new menu even more, although I will miss the Prawns!

Unfortunately that happy Hawaiian woman always sounds like that! That is the most irritating person I've ever heard. They really need to get ride of her.

How could someone complain about someone being too happy??

That woman the OP talks about is very annoying. When she gets yapping it is very hard to even carry a conversation with the other people at your table. She ran her mouth twice when we were there two weeks ago. Both times were at least 10 minutes each during the course of our meal. She went from dragging everyone up to sing happy birthday to 10 different people to wishing 20 people happy anniversary. She went on and on. When we were leaving the restaurant I pulled the manager aside and told him that the only bad part of the meal was here and they should really get rid of her.

LOL Me too!! :goodvibes

I guess we have been lucky. Both times we have been there it has been a gentleman who is not irritating at all. :teeth:

I have an ADR there for our trip in September, and this is the only one I'm really waffling about. We've never eaten there, sounds like fun, but I'm worried about the food quality. Still debating changing to the Kona Cafe, but we're already eating breakfast there one day. Just DH and myself, so not sure about the atmosphere at 'Ohana either. :confused3

You have been lucky! We've had that woman probably 15 times and she doesn't get any better. LOL!

I'm sorry the OP didn't enjoy the food (and entertainment, lol). But I have to agree that they can't please all folks with the menu items. I have to laugh when in the same thread one person says the meats were way too spicy, while another poster said the meat was "bland". Hmm, which one is it? LOL

Different tastes for different folks--and yes, I know it's possible for the food to vary from one day to the next, and from one plate to the next. This is exactly why I hate to see folks running scared from a restaurant based on someone elses experience!

We have eaten at 'Ohana many many times with the old and now the new menu. I don't mind the new menu at all--and would never ever call the meat spicy. I like spicy food, and the meats have never seemed spicy to me--they seem pretty plain to me. :confused3 I am sure they are designed to appeal to a wide variety of folks, so someone getting a spicy batch may have been an anomaly. If you don't care for the meat you are served, ask for more. In fact, I have found them to be very accommodating when it comes to asking someone for exactly what you want on (or not on) your plate. I never let them serve me that nasty sausage btw. But you know what? Some folks come on here and RAVE about the sausage. Different tastes for different folks. :thumbsup2

We've done Ohana twice, once good, last time bad. We're doing KONA this time!!

I honestly can't believe the people who blast this place so openly. We've gone 3 times in the last year and loved it each time. Just took my parents and they said it was one of the best meals they've ever eaten.

And the "crazy woman who yaps too much" made our day on the last two trips!!!! She got my bro and DH involved in the limbo, gave us all lei's, and gave DH and DB these great big delicious cup cakes to take with them for helping. If you read any of the reviews, you know she is a vibrant presence there who helps to spread joy with her antics. Imagine that, spreading some cheer with excitement at WDW... :sad2:

To each his own...but c'mon...the bad reviews for this place are ridiculous...of course, IMHO only.

We went once and it was just the worst meal ever! I wouldnt even consider going back.

You may consider her a "vibrant" presence but not everyone does. She needs to go! We can all have differing opinions without being labeled ridiculous. I could that since you have only been there 3 times that my opinion means more since I've been there over 20 times but I won't. We loved 'Ohana before the menu change. After the change, not so much. We only go for the bread pudding and shrimp. I've never liked the big mouth lady screeching raspy voice over and over into the microphone.

Why is it ridiculous if other people have had different experiences than you've had? A restaurant experience can change depending on the day, the food available, the people cooking and serving it. Just because your experience has always been good doesn't mean that others are making up their bad experiences.

Oh please. So I can say, "IMHO you're an idiot" and that makes it okay? Alrightie then!

We will be at ohana in less than 3 weeks and i plan to keep it- I've read good and bad reviews at alot of places- You can not please everyone at all of these restaurants so I plan to give it a shot and hopefully it will eb a good night!!! I am about to quit reading these boards b/f i go!!

Now who is getting nasty. Calm down everyone. Oh, and why is it they should change the menu, etc. because you don't like it when many people have claimed to like it the way it is. Everyone is different, as are their opinions. Voicing them is fine, as long as it is done in a respectful way.
