I wish I had heeded the advice of those on this board about the changes to O'hana's menu. What a waste of money! We ate there for dinner on July 4, and were seated at 7:05 for a 6:55 ADR (quite a feat on such a busy night). Things were looking up until the food came. Greasy fried wonton chips and chicken wings to start, followed by a salad with WAY too much honey lime dressing. I hated the way the waiters just plopped large hunks of meat onto my plate without asking first. I don't remember this happening the last two times I ate there several years ago. I swear they changed the marinade for the meats, because the heartburn they caused was so bad I practically had to sleep sitting up!
The dessert was okay, as well as the cheesy potatoes. I've eaten at many TS restaurants over the past 10 years, and this was by far the worst. To top it all off that way too happy Hawaiian woman had laryngitis but still tried to sing and do the come on join in stuff with the kids. She's always a bit over the top for me, but this time we couldnt' wait to leave. She drove us out in just under an hour, and we retreated to the haven of the grassy hill to watch the incredible fireworks at nine. It would have been a perfect ending to the day if I wasn't having to chew Tums while oohing and aahing the fireworks.
Shoot me if I think of making ADR's there again. I'll go back to Kona Cafe for my Poly fix. If you're considering O'hana for dinner, really think about your capacity for spicy, overseasoned meat and over the top "happy" Hawaiian hostess.

I consider pepperoni spicy, and did not find anything on the menu spicy. Perhaps the fact that it was the 4th of July accounted for :confused3 them not asking about what you wanted on your plate. Considering many complain about not even being able to get a waiters attention, at least you got food. I'm a glass half full kinda person I guess. We find going early before it gets too busy nets us better service.

I had ADR's for Ohana when we go in September and today I switched them to Boma instead. I don't know what made me do it but I did. Hopefully we won't be disappointed with Boma as it is different. Won't know unless we try.....

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. We enjoyed 'Ohana immensely. :sunny:

Sorry to hear that you did not like it, it is one of our favorite places to eat at Disney! I personally did not think anything was spicy and loved the wonton chips and hunks of steak!!!!

Yeh, Im not sure about the heartburn. To say this food didnt give you heartburn 10 years ago but does now sounds more like a personal aging issue rather than a food issue, but I'll take your word for it.

I do agree that the new menu is a step down from before, but as others say you can't please them all. Even with the changes, I still enjoy Ohana. As for hula ewoman (and I agree with your assessment), sounds like you already detested her before you went, so Im not sure you can blame her on the menu changes.

Ohana could serve only Honey Coriander Wings and the bread pudding dessert and I would leave happy... ok, Honey Coriander Wings, cheesy potatoes and bread pudding... num num

:thumbsup2

I have to agree with your review. I was not impressed at all. The salad, wings and dessert were good but the meat was bland and unappealing. The sausage was just plain nasty. Kona is so much better!

I think 'Ohana is one of those esturants that can vary wildly. We have always enjoyed it, been asked it we want the meat and not been served substandard food.

It is such as shame you had a bad meal there :(

So sorry you had a bad experience. We've never had bad food, but I did not like the menu change and it's just not worth it for us to go back anymore.

I'm with you on that!! :cheer2:

Well, we're eating there on 7/20/06 and going with an open mind. We love the old menu but are willing to try out the new offerings. We love the Polynesian and cannot wait to visit!

Oh, and food reports WITH pictures will be coming upon my return home (not that I want to think about coming home! :sad2: ).

me too! my very favorite part. But I like everything else there too. :goodvibes

Sorry to hear you had a bad time. We are getting a little nervous about Ohana. We haven't eaten there since the menu change and DD8 used to love it. The new menu doesn't appeal, but the friends we are traveling with in October have turned all planning over to me. Their only request--dinner at Ohana! Of course we will go and it will be fun just being with them, but I'm a little apprehensive about the food...

I think OHana's use to be one of those places you rarely read bad reviews on. Now it seems it is one of places you either love or hate. Ithink the luau is along that lines too.

Thank you for reconfirming my decision not to book dinner here for our upcoming trip. We go to O'hanas every trip. Last August was the first time we did not enjoy our meal at all. This year, the kids were surprised that I didn't include O'hanas in the plan. I reminded of how bad we thought it was last year and then they agreed that the right decision wasn't to return. I was still tossing around the idea of booking there but this just solidifies my original decision not to go to O'hanas.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I've been to O'hanas a couple times since the menu change and had excellent food each time. The last time we went everything (including the pork and sausage) was so good we all ate way too much!! We're going back in November :goodvibes
