DH and I used to love O'hana when we lived in FL. In fact, we would drive all the way down to Orlando (90 minutes) just to eat dinner at O'hana and not go to the parks. When we first ate there in the mid to late 90s, they had a pu-pu platter which included chicken wings, egg rolls, the yummy salad, and delicious pork dumplings. The shrimp skewers were awesome as was the beef. At some point they had pork skewers as well. The pork was smoky, tender and full of flavor. Finishing off with the pineapple was heaven. It was a perfect light and sweet ending to a delicious meal.
We moved away in 2001. When we returned in December 2005, we were eager to try the new items, but were horribly disappointed. The wonton chips were good, but seemed like a very cheap replacement for the pu-pu platter. They kept the salad (thank goodness), but got rid of the succulent pork dumplings.
The shrimp appetizer was nowhere near as good as the shrimp skewers. The potatoes were (please no flames) absolutely disgusting. They were a mushy and cold glop. (Maybe we got a bad batch). The tender, smoky pork had been replaced by okay sausage. We were just horribly, horribly disappointed.
The final disappointment was (ok. Flame suit on) the banana bread pudding. Now, this Momma loves

a good dessert. But I just couldn't eat more than 2 bites of the pudding. It was just too heavy and too sweet.
When we were making our WDW plans for this May, we went back and forth on the O'hana ADRs. We went ahead and made them and now I am glad I did. Although the pork wontons don't appear to be the old pork dumplings that we loved, we are looking forward to trying them. We are also eager to try the noodles. If they are still serving the bread pudding, I will request pineapple.
There are probably those who never had the menu we had when we first went to O'hana and are probably disappointed in these changes. And there are probably people out there who ate at O'hana before we did and enjoyed a different menu than the one DH and I loved. No matter how many changes are made, you will always have somebody that loves the old something and hates the new something and vice versa. Five years from now there will be different menu changes. Some of us will love it and some of us will vow to never eat there again. It is the way of life.
So enjoy what you love and discard what you don't.. and we will each find something to dance about...
