I made ressies for the Luau but now I am having second thoughts ... would an 8 year old be better entertained at Ohana's? I am reading so much bad press on the Luau.. I am unsure now just what to do. thx..

Hi! We ate there in August and loved it! I have an 8 year old picky eater. He was able to get his standard chicken strips and fries, which was seperate from our meal. They also offered him macaroni and cheese I believe. And like us, he could have refills, since it is a family style meal. They gather the kids at one point and dance around the room, and they do the limbo. Your child does not have to participate, but it sure lookied like the ones who did really loved it. Have a good trip!

The Luau is about the show not the food. If you are only interested in the food, then I would go to 'Ohana. If you are interested in the show (hula dancers, fire dancers, etc.) then go to the Luau.

I have not done the luau, but we have loved, loved, loved Ohana both times we went. And they do entertain the kids with hula dancing, limbo, marracas, etc.

We really enjoyed O'Hana and the activities definitely kept my 4yo entertained! Lots of dancing and she left there with about five leis!

I also have not been to the luau, but having always stayed at the Poly ... have seen people come and go from it and also heard the music ... etc. I have also read reviews about it. I think it seems like a lot of money ... especially when you have children who may become bored even with a show and although I am sure the food is fine, not raving reviews.

On the other hand I have eaten at 'Ohana (and Kona Cafe too) ... and 'Ohana seems to have enough to interest the children, yet you can finish at your own pace. It also sounds like you can get some different items for your picky eater (probably from Kona that is right next to 'Ohana). Just DH and I so no children but they looked like they were having fun during the 'Ohana activities (coconut races). I think I would vote to not do a luau and try 'Ohana. :thumbsup2

Ohana would be much more enjoyable. The luau is pretty boring (I saw it as a kid and couldn't stand it for almost 3 hours), overpriced, and has mediocre food. Ohana has fun activities for kids and Hawaiian music, a more reasonable price, and much better food.

When are you going? We've never done the Luau because we don't want to eat outside in the heat in June.

We are actually planning on doing both during our trip at the end of the month. I'm a true parrothead, so I can't get too much of island themed stuff. However if the weather stays the way it is, the luau will most likely be canceled for us again. :(

I vote Ohana's! My girls are 7, and 10 they love the food and fun. They give everyone flower lays, coconut races , limbo, hula lessons, and have you dance w your special someone they pick Dad of course. Then we watched wishes after dinner and they played in the sand. They thought the luau was a little, well in their terms... lame, and they didn't like the food as much. I enjoyed them both.
