WOW--I just snagged a reservation for 7 on the night on 11/19. It states that limited children's selections are availabel upon request. What can they order? Do you order when you get there or do I need to call ahead? ALso--will they bring the kids plain ice cream or do they have to eat the bread pudding as well? I had Sci-Fi lunch reservations so should I cancel that one or Ohana's (I really only need one TS that day.) My kids are ages 8, 6, and 2. Will they have fun at Ohana's? Thanks!

That's hard! I think they would have fun at both. Food definitely looks better than Sci Fi. We ate at Sci Fi and it was pretty disappointing.
Atmosphere is really neat though. There were lots of kids in there, all looking pretty jazzed.

Ohana is a rocking place. Lots of activity, conga line dancing, etc. I think parents will like the food there much better!

We did a lunch at Sci-Fi and Dinner at Ohana's when the kids were 6 & 4 at the time. They thought the atmosphere at Sci-Fi was cool, but had more Fun at Ohana's. Ohana's had coconut races (kids use brooms to push a coconut around - like a hockey stick & puck idea), the limbo and other stuff... my kids liked the food & we loved the food - kids got normal ice cream with sprinkles.

For us Sci-Fi is a fun choice with good food at DHS (they have this amazing tomato soup) - Ohana's is a must.

What can the kids get if they won't eat the "normal" food that is served? It said they had a limited menu upon request??? Anyone know?

I'm curious to know the answer to this question, too. We're eating dinner at 'Ohana next week. Our DD10 will eat anything but, DD8 is very picky and I'm afraid she won't like anything on the regular menu.

When we had dinner there last year my DS was able to get chicken tenders and fries.

We at Ohanas the last week of September. There is no actual written menu for adults and children. The waiter comes over to explain how dinner is served. Salad is served first family style. Then the pork dumplings and teriaki wings are served family style as appetizers. Then the steak/pork/chicken/shrimp starts coming around on skewers. The waiter also provides three dipping sauces for the meats. They also serve the broccolli and lo mein family style.

Honestly, the meat was just grilled. And the broccoli was plain. Kids would do fine with both. DD6 loved the lo mein and the dumplings.

However, when the waiter comes to the table to explain how the meal works, you just ask what the kids options are. Although there are more than three, that is all I can remember: Chick. nuggets and fries; mac and cheese; hamburgers and fries.

We did get plain vanilla ice cream in addition to the bread pudding as well.

So a group of at least 7 of us are going to WDW jan 8-15th, should i make my reservations for Ohanas, NOW?????

January 10th at 5:05p for 7 people..go get it...its available now!!! Also January 11th at 5:15pm or 7:10pm. January 12th at 5:15pm. Looks like you will have several choices but I would not wait.

Ohanas is usually difficult to get reservations even at slow times.

Then you can watch Wishes from the beach at the Polynesian!!

Our kids were brought a huge, family-style bowl of vanilla ice cream with Mickey sprinkles instead of the bread pudding.

Last year my youngest was brought macaroni and cheese as his meal. He is not a meat eater. And both of my kids got ice cream with sprinkles.

We like Sci-Fi also. I enjoy the tenderloin wedge salad. And the onion rings.

Overall, we like Ohana best, but the atmosphere at both are great. Enjoy them both.:)

thanks for the info, where else should i make reservations for now, do i need reservations for the sci-fi drive in place???

As it goes, any of the WDW TS restaurants you are better off getting reservations for.
I was all set to book the Sci-Fi diner however, then after reading that the atmosphere was GREAT but the food not so great. I changed my mind. Someone on another thread suggested that you eat somewhere else but get dessert at the Sci Fi just because its fun for the kids.. So, that is what I did.. Eating at the 50's Prime Time and then at the end of the night having desert at Sci -Fi..
As previous posters have said, definitely book your reservations now, hopefully there are some.. Everyone in your party will LOVE Ohana's.. The food is good but its SO fun for the kids.. Hope you get everything you want!

If you are going in January, you should make all reservations now. If you decide to change them later you can try. Depending on where you want to eat, you may be able to get reservations closer to the date, but if you can't but you at least you know you will have somewhere to eat.

Make reservations NOW for any place you know you want to get into.
