Ohana's and Dietary restrictions

We love eating at Ohana's but one of my kids is allergic to pineapple. Last time we were there the chef came out to talk to us. Told us no problem and he was allowed to order chicken nuggets for dinner while the rest of us enjoyed our hawaiian meal laced with yummy pineapple sauce. We would like to do the same this year but now my child is 11. I did not mind paying the !4.99 for the kids meal of chicken nuggets but I don't want to have to pay $30 for the same nuggets this year. I hate that Disney thinks an 11 year old is an adult. His allergy is noted in our reservation. I know that Disney will accommodate us with the chicken but at what cost?

At all you can eat family style and buffet restaurants, Disney charges by age, regardless of allergies or how much or how little someone eats. My DD12 has a number of food allergies, plus she's a picky eater. It's been irritating to have to pay full adult price for her ever since she turned 10 yrs. old. We did the DDP last time, so we felt we got a better value than paying OOP for her at the character dinners. Fortunately, next trip, she's only interested in one character meal, so it won't be as bad to pay OOP for that and let her order regular kids meals everywhere else. Disney used to consider over 12 yrs. adults, but they dropped the age several years ago. It stinks.
