I saw the menu for Ohana and I see there is shrimp on the menu. Do you know if all the food is in the same dish? My hubby is allergic to shellfish so I am curious.

They bring all the meat and shrimp in on seperate skewers if that's what you are asking. Your waiter brings the skewers with beef, turkey, or shrimp and puts as much on your plate as you want :)

Make sure you let your server know about the allergy ahead of time, so that he doesn't use the same fork to serve the shrimp as the meat.

All the meat (including the shrimp) is cooked on a grill in the middle of the restaurant. If I had shrimp allergy, I would not want to eat there no matter how far apart the server carried the shrimp. There is too much possibility of contamination during the grilling process.

I believe the wontons on the appetizer platter contain shrimp as well. They are all brought out on one plate with divided sections. To be safe, let your server know and they can let make sure your husband is safe.

Sometimes they also bring out the skewer of beef and shrimp side by side (as in the shrimp skewer may be leaning against the beef skewer) so you may want to ask them to bring the other skewers out separately than the shrimp. (Whoo! I said skewers alot in that sentence didn't I) :teeth:

I, too, have an allergy to shrimp. I just made a PS for Ohana's and told the CM on the phone. She put it on the PS and said that they store shrimp seperately and use a seperate grill for those with an allergy. The food is not cooked or plated together. She said to mention the allergy to the CM at the restaurant but said it is "no problem" they deal with allergy issues all the time. I will be giving it a try and praying she was right !! :magnify:

My daughter had a big problem with a milk protein allergy as a baby. (which she has since outgrown) And I was breastfeeding her, so that meant that I couldn't have anything with milk protein in it. And it is scary how many items have it hidden in them. They had me call each individual restaurant and speak with the chef about it. I think I got the numbers from the CM's when I called for PS. The chefs were wonderful. One went as far to ask me what I would like him to plan to make for me. And it could be anything, even if it wasn't on the menu. And when we checked in, they told me just to remind them of the allergy. And everything was fine. At 1900 Park Fare, they had the chef come out and talk to me personally to assure me that everything was cooked separate. Disney is wonderful when it comes to things like this.
