Ohana?

question-- we're doing the Wishes Cruise Friday May 13 and the concierge recommeded dinner at Ohana prior, as the boat leaves from the Poly. How much time should i allow for dinner here.

i was told its a fun place with games/ entertainment- so i'm thinking a long time. but then was told that it's all served family style and there's no ordering so the food comes out quickly.

any ideas/ advice??

Our meals there have taken about an hour from the time we were seated until we were done. We also have never been seated right at our PS time...usually about 15 minutes later. However knowing this is a popular restaurant that can get crowded, and knowing I had to be some where afterwards, I would probably allow 2 hours from my PS time to the time I had to be at the dock.

I would allow maybe 2 hours. Because 'Ohana is crowded and just because you have a 7pm PS, you might not be seated til 7:30. Then, it's a 3 course meal, so they get your drink order and bring some appitizers out. Wait for you to eat those, then bring out the grilled meats. Wait for you to eat a few servings of those. Then, wait for them to bring out dessert and wait for the check. So it can take awhile- but don't get me wrong, its one of my favorite restaurants- I can't wait to eat there in May!

right now we have 630 ressies, with the departure of the boat still up in the air-- May hours not yet posted. it could depart as early as 830pm. so maybe i'm cutting it too close.

2 more questions

1- if we got there early say 615 would we necessarily be seated earlier?

2- if we're done with dinner much earlier than departure is there something for the kids to do there to kill the time? kids are 9,6,5 yrs (4 total)

You could possibly be seated a little earlier, but like all PSs, you will get the next available table for your party size. It all really depends when a table is ready. Its worth a shot though. In the past we showed up for our PS(not at Ohana) a half hour in advance of out PS time and were seated right away. Im sure it could have gone the other way too though.

As for what to do if you are done earlier, theres always the shops to browse in or the monorail to take a ride on. You could relax out in the Tambu Lounge with a tropical drink(nonalcoholic for the kids of course). Theres a walking path that goes down to the Wedding Pavillion and GF if you want to work off some of that dinner,or even just go for a nice stroll along the water.

We just did the exact same thing on 2/13. PS was at Ohana at 6:30, we were seated at about 645, the cast member/ waiter was great, we told him we were going on the wishes cruise, he set us up right away, we were done in about an hour, we were supposed to meet the boat at 8:00, when we got there, we were told that Wishes was moved to 10 that night, and we should come back at 9:30, so we shopped at the poly stores, and went back.... it was worth the wait.

Arriving early might help

We arrived 30 minutes early for our 7:00 PS, and let me tell you-O'Hana's was packed!-we were seated exactly on time...I was soooo worried because of all the people there but it turned out just fine

~and as the OP said, make sure you let your receptionist and servers know you have the cruise after dinner~

Things we like to do when we need to waste time at the Poly are shop in all the different speciality stores, ride around on the monorail (if you had lots of time you could hop off and explore any of the monorail resort shops, as there are several at the Grand Flo and the Contemporary) and we also like to listen to the music man singing and dancing outside of O'Hana. When we were there they were really good about getting the kids involved and dancing around the lobby. Lots of fun. This is also a great evening activity if you don't use a park hopper that day, say you swim or do a water park, then that night you get a big dose of Disney without taking off your hopper. Have fun.

thanks to all for the great advice! we're a party of 10 so maybe i'll move the ressies up to sixish-- they had 550 or 630 when i called. better safe than sorry i guess. i don't want to rush dinner as it sounds like great fun!
