We just ate there on Sat. Night and it was AWESOME! It is my fav. restaurant now. The food was unbelievable! There was so much food i didn't know what to do with ourselves. We had a 5:10 reservation and were seated right at 5pm, first ones seated. We had the ebst view in the place, right along the window looking over the lagoon and the Magic Kingdom. Couldn't have been better. Everything was good, and that dessert.....words cant describe it! Everything was delicious and I recommend it to everyone....don't let other people's negative reviews keep you away. It was our first of many trips there.

Awesome news! We're going in Dec.

About how long did it take to eat your meal? We have a 5:15 ADR and I'm hopeful we can get done, into to MK, and book it up Main Street before Spectro at 7pm.

'Ohana typically takes me at least an hour - and that's solo!

When I have been there with a group it's been closer to two hours.

I think you're going to have trouble getting to Main Street by 7pm if you have a 5:15 ADR. It won't be impossible, but it may be tight. Be sure to mention to your server that you are on a schedule.

Thank you for your great review. Yours is another reason why I've decided my family should try Ohana's on our next trip. We've done the Dining Plan several times, eaten at many places, but have never given Ohanas a try yet. (Only wish they had a Dinner character meal)

Next time, for sure!! :thumbsup2

Our group of 10ppl is trying for the 1st time on our November vacay.....
I have read mixed reviews but we are going to try it for ourselves, so I am happy to read another fantastic review!!
ALSO, I thought I read once that there is some "interactive-fun" during the meal, Any Details on This ???

Thanks

Thanks, Will. Does the train run that late? If so, we can hop on that puppy and get over to Splash Mtn.

I adore Ohanas! Cant wait to go back for my bday in Aug! Of course I love anything hawaiian! lol Good food tho, fun place, gorgeous resort. We normally like to eat around 5 or 6 but I always make my ADRs for 7:30 so we can eat at a relaxing pace and watch Wishes from there, its a wonderful end to our first day in MK each trip!

We are eating there next week! I can't wait. This will be our first time with the new menu. I will miss the Prawns and pineapple/caramel. I am excited to try the new items.

No matter what anyone says we plan on going there for breakfast on our trip! Can't wait. But thanks for the review! So looking forward to it!!

I agree that everyone should try it for themselves, however, this is a discussion board for opinion and its just that "an opinion". If we all had the same opinion would there be any need for discussion. We loved Ohanas before the menu changed. The food wasn't bad, however the food was great before. The old saying " If it ain't broke don't fix it". Here is my opinion of Ohanas now.

The last time we were there they changed the menu and we were very disappointed. They took away the great bread, No more grilled shrimp, replaced all the side dishes (shrimp wonton, glazed chicken wings, green beans, fried rice, salad and others) with scalloped potatos big deal. The pineapple boat and caramel sauce was replaced with bread pudding again nothing special. Just wanted to post my opinion.

I have heard since I posted about this before, that Ohanas has seen a negative response to the menu change and will return to the old menu in October. Don't know if its hear-say, but we would definetly return if it changes back. At least the grilled shrimp and bread!

We are not sure of all the items. Our DD is very picky.
Menu from.http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_oh.htm..

Starters
Fried Wontons served with peanut sauce, chimichurri sauce and harissa
Mixed greens with a honey-lime dressing

Appetizers
Spicy-sweet and sour shrimp
Honey-coriander chicken wings

Skewers - Prepared over an oak fire
Marinated Sirloin Steak
Asian Barbecue Pork Loin
Mesquite Grilled Turkey
Hawaiian Pork-sausage with pineapple terriyaki glaze

Accompaniments
Maui Scalloped Potatoes
Stir-fried Vegetables

Dessert
'Ohana bread pudding a la mode with Bananas Foster Sauce

The grilled shrimp were the bomb-diggity when we went in September...I think this was as they were transitioning to the new menu, because we had the lazy susan w/the wotons, etc but we also had the potatoes. The dessert was the bananas foster thing that was good, but pinneapple w/caramel would have been good, too! The service was sloooooooow the night we went, we just wanted refills of cokes. Maybe they could have put a pitcher on the table? Plus took forever to find our waiter for the check, but we thought it was ok. The view is nice and everyone should try it at least once, but in Chicago theres a ton of places like it, like Brazzas, etc, so it wasn't that big of a deal to us novelty-wise, but we had a good time.

We were there Saturday night as well, and we were not happy with it AT ALL...I MISS the old menu and I sure do hope they do bring it back. We were so looking forward to this meal and it was very dissapointing. :guilty:

it seems to me that most of the negative reviews arwe coming from ppl who have been there b4. If you haven't been there b4, you have nothing to compare it to. I just want ppl who haven't eaten there b4 to give it a try, b/c we almost backed out of it and tried something else, but boy are we glad we didn't. So at least try it for yourself, im sure ull enjoy it.

We love 'Ohanas SO much more now than we did before. The menu changes are wonderful!! I absolutely LOVE the wings, wonton chips, the scalloped potatoes, and the dessert! We weren't too excited to go last time as we didn't care for the food before and were really going for the atmosphere but the food was so much better.

If I could offer one word of advice to a first timer at 'Ohana it would be this:

When they bring the skerwered meats, if you get a piece that is dry alert the waiter and get some more. Tell them that it is too dry. This meat is cooked over an enormous pit and it's impossible to have perfect consistency.

Actually this is my recommendation at every restaurant - if there's something you think is wrong, tell them and give them an opportunity to make it right. Often they will try to satisy you - occasionally they won't. At least you tried!

:thumbsup2

I came on to ask a question about Ohana and saw this thread, so I'll stick it in here...
Just how loud and boistrous are the "activities"? I'll be traveling with DS4 who enjoys some mild dinner entertainment, but doesn't handle anything on a level with "Whispering" Canyon well. Trying to decide if Ohana is a good idea or if we should just stick with Kona Cafe or room service one night.
Thanks!

Can anyone else confirm any rumor that they will be changing the menu back in October? That would be great!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I still love Ohana's, but the Grilled Shrimp were so much better than the sausage
