Ohana - When to go

I arrive at mco at 11:30 on 1/25. I have a 3:30 Ohana ADR. That's so early, but was thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea since it's the first day and we could head over to the Magic Kingdom afterward.

Today Ohana had an opening on 1/26 at 5:20. I grabbed it up, because that will be our first full MK day, and I didn't have any other ADRs that night, but now wondering which on to keep? I've never been and I'm very excited. But want to know if anyone has any advice on which one to keep. Thanks!

I would keep the 3:30. IMO the best time to go there, they just opened, there are no backups, food is hot and fresh, service is good. That's when we went in December and it was perfection - none of the issues people sometimes complain about there. Have a light snack when you land and come hungry... you may or may not feel like going to the MK after and can play it by ear. I would not abbreviate my first full MK day by having to insert a heavy meal into it.

It depends on whether or not you're willing to risk the no show penalty fee if your plane is delayed or cancelled. The general rule of thumb is to allow three hours from when you get to DME to when you're walking into a park, so unless you're staying at the Poly, I would be worried about missing the ADR. I don't like feeling like I have to worry about a time constraint, so overall, I would go with the second day/time. By then you'll know whether you've made it to WDW (or are stuck in an airport) and you won't have to worry about the travel time as much. My family usually plans our 'Ohana dinner for a day when we're at the MK because it's pretty easy to get to the Poly from MK (boat or monorail).

I would definitely go with the second one, for the reasons the previous poster mentioned. I would worry and stress about missing the ADR all day.

Jan 25....where are you coming from? Remember, even if there is no snow or winter weather where you are, winter mess can mess with travel plans. I'd go with the 2nd day too.

Thank you so much! I got lucky, an ADR opened up for 5:00 on that first day so I went ahead and changed it, and canceled the other one!

This. If you can do the Magic Kingdom after a meal at 'Ohana, then you didn't do 'Ohana correctly.
here here to that. I did it before MVMCP and definitely held back not wanting to be uncomfortable and now I regret not eating 4x the shrimp I did!

i just told DH this and he cracked up. He completely agrees. It's actually quite the joke between us what a dinner at 'Ohana does to you! :teeth:
