My daughter and I ate there Thursday night. We eat there about twice a year and have always been pretty happy as long as there is skewered shrimp and those god awful potatoes are gone forever.

Anyway, 9:30 reservation, we arrived at 9:00, got seated at 9:45. Not how I planned it but that late in the evening you just never know.

The waitstaff was friendly but they show little of the "island" show that they used to. Too bad.

I can see how people complain about food service but really there is no reason for it. If you're not ready for the skewers, say "no", when you are ready simply wave at ANY server passing by for more. No problem. It's your meal and YOU are in charge.

The food: Everything was the same as usual except the chicken replacing the turkey. It was smoked nicely, tender and tasty. It was not nearly as good as the turkey but it was good for chicken. No complaints but I'll hope for turkey next time.

Thanks for posting. We have an ADR for Ohana for December. We are going at 5:30 but I'm still going back and forth with this one. We never ate there but I wanted to try but my husband said let's past. I like reading good or bad so I can determine to keep it or past. I think my son would like the coconut race

Tell me about the coconut race... we are going in September for the 1st time with DD14, DD4, DN14 and DN13

The coconuts used in the famous Ohana Race are champion racing coconuts bred at WDW's training facility on the island of Oahu. These coconuts range in sizes from the 2 foot diameter Island Roller to the giant 5 foot diameter Kahuna'nu'a (Hawaiian for "Freakishly Huge Coconut"), depending on the size of the child who will be riding it. Nightly heats are held about every hour using ICRA (International Coconut Racing Authority) rules. The kids are weighed before each race and handicap weights are mounted on the coconut saddles to make things even according to ICRA handicapping rules.

Standard race is once around the restaurant, which is exactly 334.87 feet. Kid riders are allowed to use their brooms as riding crops, but may not interfere or touch other riders' coconuts with it. First across wins but only if they do so by a Hu'ma'ma'ka (3 lengths based on the circumference of the winning coconut).

I couldn't resist. Actually, the kids sweep coconuts around the restaurant for one full lap. That's it.

I'm personally happy they replaced the turkey with chicken, as I like chicken soooo much more than turkey! And I MISS those potatoes!!

Did you have a nice view of the fireworks?

Thank you so much for the update. Can't wait to dine here this month!

Yup. Fireworks were nice, but they are certainly no reason to eat there.

I like chicken a lot too and this is real good but I also like turkey and there is no doubt that, all things being equal, the turkey is a better offering. This is undoubtedly a cost cutting measure for this time of year.
