Can someone explain a bit more about what O'Hana is like? I know it's not a dinner show, but there's more going on than at a regular restaurant, right? I'd read there's an open fire pit where they cook the meats, is this visible from the tables? Also, the one food my DS9 would probably eat there is the steak...can you request how it's cooked (i.e. medium-well), or is cooked one way for everyone?

Thanks!

We've done O'hana's twice. The first time we had a table that we could see the firepit from (very cool), the second time if they hadn't walked us past it on the way to the table, we'd of never known there was one in the resturant. But we have a view of the castle both times, a few tables back from the windows, I guess we still lucked out, as not every table has a window view either.

As for how the food is cooked, they didn't ask just came through with the spears, they seemed to all be cooked about the same in a general not too done not to undone brown all the way through sort of way.

As for the extra stuff, what they have is someone doing hula hooping, and hula lessons, limbo, and someone playing a ukalaly (Soooo spelled wrong sorry) and that type of thing about every 20 mins or so I'd say, mostly for the kids, but fun to watch. But again I think it depends on where your seated how entertaining this is. The first time we had a great view as they do this near the fire pit, but the second we could hear it and see some of it but not much, mostly just the parade of kids going by for the limbo contest.

Over all it was fun but I'm not sure we'll go back again, as we prefered the way it was before they changed the menu. The new food wasn't really the problem just the way it was served, less fun and seemed a bit rushed, may have just been a busy night but we weren't nearly as impressed as the first time. Aslo really missed the pineapple, and coconut pineapple bread.

Hope this helps

Melissa

I know the menu has changed slightly since we were there in August, but it is basicly chicken, pork, and shrimp that is "skewerd" and served to you. In chicago the best way to describe it is like going to a brazillian BBQ resturant. they come back to your table over and over (all you can eat) with the meat and serve you what you would like. You can see the cooking area from most of the seats. they do have some interactive things for the kids like dancing in the aisle etc. and there are side dishes served on the table, I know some of these have changed, but it was a vegtable, mini egg rolls etc.

We went to 'Ohana in October and had a great time. We weren't seated in the greatest section of the restaurant, but we still had a good time. There is a very large "pit" where they are cooking all of the meats, you can see them from your table and you can walk up and look if you like. During our dinner, they had hula lessons, coconut races, and something else for the kids - I forget now.... But, my dd's had a great time, got them out of their seats and they weren't bored. The food was very good, served family style, all you can eat. They come out w/salad first, then shrimp, wontons w/sauces, potatoes, vegetables, and the meats (I feel like I'm forgetting something else) anyway, they bring the meats to you on a large skewer. I'm not sure if you can ask how they can cook it - although it never hurts to ask. I'm sure someone here knows the answer to that questions. Then comes dessert which is delicious, bread pudding w/ice cream and warm banana sauce. I'm not a fan of bread pudding, but it was very good. While we were finishing dinner, wishes started . The restaurant was starting to empty out so the waitstaff told us to go sit right next to the windows and watch the fireworks, was really a great time!

Does anyone know if when you make your ADR's for Ohana, can you request to be seated in a certain area of the restaurant?

I know you can ask at check-in, but as with everything else there's no guarentee and to be honest both times I've been they've been SUPER busy so I'm not sure how likely it would be for them to be able to fullfill your request but it never hurts to ask. I don't see why you can't ask the CM doing your ADRs to put it down.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be guaranteed, but like you said, it never hurts to ask! Also, anyone know where I can find the children's menu for this dinner? Allears doesn't list it.. just that one is available.

I have eaten at Ohanas many times and like to have my steak well done. When they bring it to the table on the skewers you can certainly request to have any of the items cooked to your liking. They were very nice about it and did so with no probem. So go ahead and ask! Also, does anyone have the new menu. I have heard it has changed and I think I will definitely miss some of the old items.

Thanks!

We have 2 young kids and when the Waitress came to the table she asked us if the kids wanted chicken fingers, mac n cheese and she listed off a couple more things. I believe that they get kid meals from the Kona rest. next door. So check out their menu. I love Ohana's!

My DH, DS's and I make this a MUST whenever we are at WDW. We were there just last month and even with the changes it was wonderful. They no longer have the shrimp on a skewer - shrimp is now served before the meal in a bowl with a sauce (I was the only one who ate it and I enjoyed it). The chicken wings in the honey corriander (sp) are still great. They now have steak, pork, turkey and sausage on the skewers - I also overheard another table ask if they could have their steak cooked more and it was no problem. The potatoes are new and tasted very good. The other main change, I think, is the dessert. While we enjoyed the bread pudding with ice cream and the wonderful banana foster sauce you can pour over it, we told our waiter that we missed the pineapple with caramel sauce - when he brought our dessert he brought a small bowl of pineapple and caramel sauce. We will always make it a point to make an ADR at O'hana's. I'm now counting the days until I can make ours for our next trip in December - :cheer2:

We went to Ohana's for the first time this past November and all I can say is OMG. Loved everything from the salad (which I had to get the receipe for) to the Bread Pudding (which I also got the receipe for). I didn't care for the sausage, but loved everything else. There was just 4 of us me, DH, DD12 and DDbest friend 14. DDbestfriend didn't eat much, but she is a really picky eater. DD said she would want to go back. We arrived early for our ADR but got right in when they opened. They sat us right next to the window facing the castle. We have decided that we will go back again. :cheer2:
