We have eaten several times at Ohana and enjoyed it very much. This past December we were going back with a change in our family. dd1 was now married and living in Orlando and dd2 was bringing her boyfriend. It was to be our Christmas as dd1 was not going to be able to come home.
dd2 really wanted her fiance to eat at Ohana as he had never been. In fact he had really only ever been to WDW once several years ago for about 2 minutes.
Now we had priority seating for 4 but at the last minute dd1 and her hubby could come. There were no other ressies, but we were able to increase our table size without difficulty.
We were very worried about this ressie because of all that had been written on the DIS about the changes to the menu, staff attitudes, etc. but we went and were we gladhttp://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/cool1.gif

Our beeper went off just as dd2 and her now fiance came up the stairs...yes indeed he had taken her to sunset point and proposed (that is a whole nother story)
Anyway we got seated and dd2 was crying away and we were all excited. Our waitress was just like "anyone want something to drink" I explained to her that we had just had an engagement and her whole demeanor changed. She gave us plenty of time and even offered to take a group photo. We had also said at check in that dd2 had a serious lactose allergy. The chef was quickly brought over and dealt very nicely with her issues, offering substitutes that worked nicely for her. This continued throughout the entire meal.
Our food came out at a nice interval and was nice and hot. While I don't realll;y get the wonton wrappers they were okay and all the females really enjoyed the salad although I do think the dressing was better before. The wings and shrimp were very good. A word about the shrimp some people are not happy because you no longer get the big ones from the grill. In terms of taste we couldn't see much different but none of us enjoy peeling these cooked, seasoned shrimp, or the old ones for that matter.
the augratin potatoes and fried veggies were great. In fact I loved the potatoes, felt bad dd2 couldn't eat them, but she said her rice was good. Boys didn't want to fill up too much on potatoes or veggies because meat was coming. Loved the hot washclothes too. Our waitress was around just often enough and we certainly didn't feel rushed. Our meat came with the steak without butter for dd2. Pork at the same time. both were very, very good agreed all. Turkey and sausage next. Turkey all loved and I thought it was better than before but don't know why. Sausage was divided between the like and not with 2 love, 2 okay, 2 yuck. Anything we asked for was brought very efficiently and we never had to wait long at all to ask. Even asked if we needed our dips refilled. Second server while not as friendly as the waitress was very efficient. Dessert.........dd2 had soy ice cream she liked. bread pudding results were mixed. I think we liked the pineapple better as it was lighter.
They started the kid stuff and then announced they had a couple that was going to be married tomorrow and they were going to have a dance for all those in love. They said even newly engaged couples. As dd2 decided whether to get up (she is kind of shy) our waitress literally came running up and said aren't you getting up there? When they got there they announced that they had the newly engaged couple now.......They played Blue Hawaii..one of dd2s favorite Elvis movies and we had just been talking about the mom drinking Mai Tais...Made mom get a little misty I must say.
Anyway we felt this meal was as good as any we had had at ohana although those of us that had been there did miss a couple things, but we thought everything was very good (except maybe the sausage), service was excellant and we were impressed with the way the allergy was handled. After reading so many bad reviews we were thrilled to find we enjoyed it very much. Until the bill came and we were a bit shocked....guess I hadn't looked at the price in a while............
our 2 cents!!!
