Hi Everyone!

We are going to Poly in mid-December for 3 days - 6 of us, me, DH, 2 DS's 9 & 11 & IL's. I want to eat at the hotel our first night, then EPCOT and MGM the following. I was convinced Ohana was the place to go, but now I'm hearing not so great stuff about it and hearing great things about Kona even though that restaurant doesn't sound as fun. Any advice?? THanks!

If your DSs aren't the kind to get up with a bunch of kids for the hula hoop contest, the coconut races, etc. then you might be happier, as far as food goes, at the Kona Cafe. However, if you think your DSs would enjoy the activities at 'Ohana, then go there. We had our DSs there this past summer. They're 17 and 14, and obviously did not get up and join in the kids' activities (LOL), but they did enjoy watching the little kids, and listening to the ukelele player who was running the kids' activities, and singing songs, as he walked around the restaurant.

I chose 'Ohana for that dinner because it was the night of our anniversary and I wanted a nicer atmosphere than at the Kona Cafe. I had requested a table near the window that looks out towards the volcano pool and the castle, and I was granted my request :) But as far as the actual food goes, we LOVE the Kona! We had 4 meals at the Kona Cafe on this last trip! :teeth:

The Kona Cafe is an excellent CASUAL dining restaurant. Excellent food and service, nice relaxed casual atmosphere. It is open all along the front of the restaurant, to the 2nd floor lobby of the Polynesian. It's definitely not what you'd call an intimate setting. lol 'Ohana is also relaxed, but has more of a "show" to it.

Tough decision, I'm just trying to give our impressions of both restaurants. Hope this helps a little :)

Also, I have pictures from both restaurants on my web site, the link is below, in my signature, if you care to take a look :3dglasses

I changed from O'Hana to Kona this morning after reading a lot of bad reviews about O'Hana and deciding that the food might suit us better at Kona. Besides we haven't been to Kona so it will be something new. :) Thank you for the description of Kona, so now I'll know what to expect.

If you're going to be at Poly for 3 days, I would go to both restaurants. Go to Ohana for dinner, then Kona for breakfast.

We just returned last night and we did eat dinner at both restaurants. We enjoyed Kona a lot more than O'hana. THe service and food were noticeably better. You have to try the Kona chowder
We felt rushed at O'hana. The pineapple for dessert is now gone and replaced with bread pudding with a banna and carmel sauce. :confused3 :confused3 GO TO KONA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great idea!! We will do Ohana the first night, if I can get an ADR, if only for the antics and then do breakfast or lunch at Kona on the day we leave since that was going to be our "hang around" Poly day anyway!! Must now add it to my ADR list. Thanks everyone - I can't wait to go to both!!
