After reading the reviews on Ohana lately I am a little worried about our meal there. If you had to choose would you pick Ohana or Kona Cafe for a dinner. :confused3 It will be Me, Dh, Ds (5) and Ds (2).

Thanks!
Lisa

Hmmm...can you do both, lol? I know many people are upset over the changes at O'Hana, but we loved it. I must say, though, we were never there for dinner under the old menu so we didn't know what we were missing.

I don't know which was better, the food or the atmosphere. DS (4) had a great time with the coconut race and hula hooping. We asked for and received a table with a viewing for Wishes and that was awesome! It was the first night they tested out Hallowishes and it was simply beautiful!

As I said we didn't know what we were missing with the food but we loved everything! We all decided we could have made our meal just off of the wontons and dipping sauces. The shrimp was delicious, the meat was tender and flavorful and we really liked the potatoes. I hate pineapple but even I must say the pineapple bread pudding was awesome! Based on our one and only experience, O'Hana will become a must do for all future trips.

We only ate breakfast at Kona, but it was good too. I just think the atmosphere combined with the food and great service at O'Hana makes it a winner.

Kona had very good food.. although there were not coconut races or anything of that nature.. just a normal sit down meal... with exceptional food.

We ate at Kona last week, and it was certainly one of our best meals for the trip. Food and service were both A+, and we intend to return there on every vacation.

We ate at Kona's 3 times last week. Once each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is MUCH better then 'Ohana which we also ate. The seafood chowder is very good!

The meals that we have ADR"s for are.

Chef Mickey - dinner
Ohana - dinner (this is the meal I am questioning)
Donalds Breakfasouraus (sp?) breakfast
Beaches and Cream (no adr's but definatly eating there)
Crystal Palace - dinner
CRT - lunch
Whispering canyon - dinner
Ohana - breakfast

Ous sons are 2 & 5 so we were trying to have lots of fun meals for them. BUT, the thought of having "just a good meal" sounds very nice. LOL

The people on this board are the best! Thanks sooo much for all your help. Now I just have to see if my TA or WLC staff can get us a reservation at Kona Cafe. We leave in 2.5 weeks so I do not know if they will already be packed.

Thanks again,
Lisa

You can't go wrong with Kona - have had both breakfast and dinner there in the last 6 months, and both were excellent (food and service).

We ate at Ohana for the first time a week ago Saturday - YUCK!!! I don't know if it's the new menu or what, but we won't be going back. (I'm even canceling the character breakfast we had scheduled there for December - we'll probably change it and eat breakfast at Kona again!)

Never got to Ohana but we ate at Kona twice. Loved it! I'm not a big fan of the fixed menu or buffet restaurants but some people love them. I'm sure you'll have a good time either way. The Poly is beautiful! Enjoy your meal there. :)

This is a tough choice. We love both restaurants for different reasons. Kona has very nice food, so I would pick Kona over Ohana for that reason. However, we usually go to Ohana at least once each visit because our kids have loved it since they were little. They have Hawaiian music, coconut races, hula hoop contests. There is a lot to keep the kids entertained. Your kids can also order from a limited kids menu if they do not like the skewered food. With your little ones, Ohana might be best. That said, I see you are also doing WCC which is a themed event with kid races, so you could choose Kona for yourselves and have WCC for the kids.

We did both last week, and enjoyed Kona a bit more. We did alot of character meals, and just getting to order what you want off a menu really made us happy. (Not to mention the filet was AWESOME!)

One more vote for Kona!

Thanks everyone!

I just got a ADR for Kona Cafe at 5:00! Canceled Ohana. We are going to keep the Ohana breakfast ressies so the boys can see Lilo and Stich. :cheer2:

I'm on this same fence. I love Kona, having eaten there once in March, and we haven't been to O'Hana yet but we'd like to try it. I have 2 and 4 year olds who might like O'Hana and buffets are always good with a 2 year old because she can eat for free. My TA booked my ADRs as soon as we booked our trip (because we were only two months away from departure) but now I have changed our itinerary around again and I cannot figure out a way to have dinner at Kona, CRT (another fave) and O'Hana during our five night stay unless we do a sit down on our MNSSHP night, which is risky with kids who might nap and then we'll have to rush to make our reservation. For now, I don't have a ADR at Kona and one at O'Hana, but I keep thinking I'm making a mistake.
