So I'll be solo for a few days before my family meets up with me on my up coming trip. I love Ohana, but now that DS is over 9 it will cost $40 for me to watch him eat 1 chicken wing and a potsticker. So I thought I'd go while I'm solo. Tried to get a table for a party of one, no availability. Another Diser suggested I try for a party of 2. BAM! All these available times opened up. ITS THE SAME TABLE! Party of one or Party of 2, they are going to seat you at a 2 top. ARRRRRRG! I have to say, if it weren't for the credit card hold I would book the table for 2, but I'm not gonna give them an extra $10 because they won't seat a single diner. I realize they will get $80 plus tip on $80 for a couple as oppose to $40 and a tip on $40 from me, but it just doesn't seem fair. :sad2:

Wow. That just isn't right. Stupid CC hold. :headache: I wonder if you could reserve it as a two top and then call a couple days later and change it to one.

Call them and say something to them. Tell them you can go on line and get a table for 2, but you only want it for one, and that it will not give you a table for one. I would call and say " I would like a reservation for Aug 2" (don't know your date), then say for 2, when they say okay we have a table, say "oh, I am sorry, for that dinner my son will not be joining me. I forgot" Then see if they pull the reservation from you. If they say no, then I would say, why? If they do not give you a good answer, I would contact Disney. That's discrimination.

Ah, yes...saying you're 2 when you're 1. Or saying you're 4 when you're 3.

Unless you want to pay the cancel fee, those days are gone, my friend. We thought they'd never end. ;)

Or will they not charge you if you say the 2nd (or 4th) person became ill? That's a question for those who would lie and say they were 4 when they were 3, then lie and say the 4th got sick. I know that many would find these things immoral...and rightly so. They are lies.

Like when Disney lies when they say there are no tables for you if you are one, but there is if you are two?

People have been reporting WDW does not accept "illness" as an excuse to cancel w/in the 24 hour window. People have also reported being charged $10 for the one who doesn't show up.

Interesting post, I just did some dummy bookings and ohanah and trails end both seem to be happy to book two people but avalability dissapears when you change to one person. I was really looking forward to both these resturaunts on my next trip having gone with my nephew on my last trip but it looks like I am not wanted as a single :sad1:

If I were you I would make the reservation for two online so that you don't lose the date. Then call and say plans have changed and you will be a party of one instead. They should be able to make a note on your reservation and you won't be charged for a no show. Good luck.

In my efforts to make solo ADRs, I have found that even with the places I can get ADRs for one person, those ADRs are at "off" times. If I charge my party to 2 people, lots of more desirable meal times become available.

I think this sounds perfect. Make all your adrs and then one call to change to one diner.

I hope that works. They may say that they have to delete the first reservation and create a new one...and darn, but there aren't any for one person.

That's how they used to do it back when I finally settled on just lying to them.

Maybe it has changed.

For kicks I put in a random date and asked for availability for a party of 2 for dinner.

67 Restaurants had availability. I took note of which ones didn't, most were seasonal (Diamond Horseshoe), or not open due to rehab (Tutto). The only truly unavailable to parties of 2 were were CRT and Le Cellier.

Then I used the same date to check availability for a table of 1. Still no CRT or Le Cellier of course. But in addition, no availability for Cali Grill, CM, 'Ohana, Olivia's Cafe (why?), or Trail's End (again why?)

I kind of understand why they do this with the popular locations, but Olivia's and Trail's End have me baffled.

If I remember correctly I'm pretty sure Olivia's doesn't have any 2 top tables, I have eaten solo at Olivia's a couple times and was seated at a 4 top table. I didn't have or need an ADR though. I don't know about Trail's End, but I wonder if that has something to do with it. Maybe the ADR program looks for a 2 top table opening for a single.

Has anyone gotten a non-canned response from guest communications on this issue? It seems foolish that you can't book for one person but for two. The system should allow rounding up (1-2 at a 2-top, 3-4 at 4-top, etc.)

This really seems like a flaw in their system that Disney needs to fix...especially now that they are requiring cc's for some restaurants. I'd call or write someone higher up the food chain to let them know. I'm sure solo diners are a small percentage of their ADRs but between solo travelers and business travelers they need to make those places available. If I had a solo trip planned I'd send something on my letterhead to see if it got their attention. ;)

I'm really guessing here, but I think this is what the system does. If you think about it, you don't see all that many two tops at Disney restaurants. I think the system will round up, but only so far. Say there are four two tops in a restaurant, if there are already three reservations for two, the single would get the last two top, but if there are already four reservations for two, it isn't putting the single at a four top. Just like it probably wouldn't round up a reservation for two to a six top either.

I'm not making reservations any more. If there is no availability I'll eat table service or head off site.

Hmm...that could be. They are willing to sit 2 at a 4 top, but not 1. Not sure how this is typically handed at restaurants. But then again, a smart system would see the request for 1, and move a party of 2 to a 4-top if the 4-top was available, and give the 2-top to the 1. How that translates at the actual seating I have no idea...

Ok, so I just tried the date May 17 and the broad "Dinner" Search time. Party of 2 has 71 restaurants available. The 3 Unavailable locations are Diamond Horseshoe (not open), Fresh and The Garden View Tea Room (Both don't serve Dinner). So EVERY Restaurant that serves dinner and takes ADRs has availability for a party of 2 that night.

I switched to Party of one and again searched "Dinner". Now only 67 restaurants are available. In addition to the 3 listed above, No availability at California Grill (which does take ADRs for one, because I made one this week, granted its at 9:40 PM), 'Ohana, Olivia's, or Trail's End.
