I was a huge fan of the "old Ohana". My favorite by far. We would go twice in one trip. I was very angry when I started reading about the menu changes and swore I would not return. Saturday night was the last night of our trip and we decided last minute we wanted to go some where nice for our last meal. All the places we wanted to go were booked. We decided to go over to the Poly to try for Ohana and give it another shot. We figured if the food was bad the atmosphere would still be good.

We arrived at 6:20 and our party of 5 was seated by 6:35, in a window seat no less. Our waitress explained the changes to us and said they are switching back to the old way soon. Then the food started to come out starting with the salad and chips. Then the shrimp and chicken wings came. The reason I liked this place so much is because I love shrimp. My record stands at 65 in one sitting. I have to say the new shrimp are better than the old ones. More tasty and less burnt. You can still have as much shrimp as you want. You just have to ask for more. I got two servings of the shrimp and the chicken wings. The waitress also told me my record of 65 is nothing. The most she has heard of was 145.

While we were eating our appetizers a waiter came over with some meat. I simply told him we were'nt ready for meat yet we were still eating our appetizers. He said o.k and walked away. One of the complaints I read about is that they try to rush you. If you want to take it slow just speak up and let them know. If they bring something and you are not ready for it yet just tell them nicely.

I am now placing Ohana back on my favorite restaurant list. I am glad we gave it another shot because it was really good. I am even going to say it was better than the old.

Great news!!! We are eating at Ohana in October at 5:35, we have a Wishes cruise leaving from the Poly after dinner, cant wait!!!

We also loved Ohana's and was a 2 visits per trip family but when they changed the way dinner was served and what was included we got turned off.Our last trip was the first time in 8 years we past on Ohans's.I asked my daughter about dinners on our next trip and the first thing she said was we are not eating at Ohan's so if it's true they are turning back the clock we will return but I have not heard anything but words and have not seen action.

If Disney is listening GO BACK.. GO BACK...

BRING BACK THE CARMEL BOAT DESSERT

Did they give you any idea of when the return to the old menu would take place? I really like the new potato dish and the shrimp and desert. We are going to Ohana's on the 17th of Jan. and I hope we can squeeze in one more meal with the new menu.:love:

Am I reading that they no longer have the larger skewers of shrimp? The shrimp was my favorite.... :confused3 :confused3

We have ADR for O'hana's and am hoping shrimp is available..

I'm glad you liked it! The last time I went was in June '04 and it was sooooo good. We're going on our first night there in March and now I'm really looking forward to it :goodvibes

You didn't mention how you liked that fantastic new dessert?

The dessert alone is worth a trip to 'Ohana for me.

We ate at Ohana's for the first time in December and were really disapointed. I was expecting it to be so much better. The shrimp they serve you has no taste . The meats that we had that night were so dry and tough that you could harly chew them. I did like the sticky wings, potatos and desert though. I don't think we will be back for a long long time........

I will go back just for the potatoes and the dessert.... YUMMY!!!!! Let's hope they don't change that!

when you say going back to the old way, what do you mean?

We loved the green beans and caramel pineapple!

I loved the old way too, but we went last August and it was very very good. I still missed the old shrimp, but we ate for 2 full hours from start to finish. We didn't miss it,lol!

I would be a happy if they brought back the old shrimp, less messy......but I'm ok this way. Also - the new desert was awesome! But I also loved the pineapple. I'd be happy either way.

I'd love ot hear what the "old way" is because the new way sounds pretty darn good. And what's the new dessert?

We have an ADR for Ohana on 2/9 and I'm so excited!

If my memory serves me correctly, the biggest changes from the "old way" to the "new way" are:

Old=Your appetizers were served on a lazy suzan
New=Your appetizers are served in white triangle bowls

Old=You were served warm pineapple bread when seated
New=You are served no bread

Old=You were served shrimp wontons as an appetizer
New=You are served nacho style wonton chips (they are actually very good)

Old=You were served fried rice
New=You are served maui potatoes (augraten potatoes) awesome!!

Old=Your shrimp were cooked and served on skewers
New=Your shrimp is served in the white bowls with a sweet&sour sauce

Old=Shrimp on skewers
New=Flame cooked turkey served on skewers was added to menu

Old=Fresh sliced pineapples with caramel sauce was served for dessert
New=Bread pudding with ice cream & bananas Fosters sauce (THE BEST!)

I hate to admit it but I think I like the new way better too.:rotfl2:

Glad to read this review! we ate at Ohana on our trip in Septempber 2004. Absolutely loved it! I was disappointed when I read about the changes (In general, I cringe at changes at WDW). I went back and forth about making a reservation for our May trip this year. I went ahead and made one, and after reading your review, I am glad I did. Looking forward to trying the new menu!!:thumbsup2

We think that the sausage is gross...It tasted terrible! I hope they bring the Tiger Shrimp on the skewers back! I do like the potatoes though, they are yummy!

Shrimp IS available. It is not served grilled on skewers. If you are concerned that the shrimp must be served grilled on skewers for you to return, then that is up to you. But the sweet and sour shrimp are tasty. If they didn't bring more I would have had to fight with my mother over them.

The turkey did not replace the shrimp on skewers, they added pork sausage. We did not like the sausage. But there was plenty more to eat.

The bread pudding is awesome. The pineapple was okay but I would rather have the bread pudding.

I don't think that I've ever read of anyone actually liking the sausage. I know it was not something that I would ever try again. It's just not good.

The bread pudding, on the other hand, I would wrestle over!:hippie:

And DE2Disney didn't even mention the salad with a citris vinegrette or the sauteed mixed veggies or the chicken wings! They were barbeque-type - not my style but DH LOVED them. We didn't eat much of the skewered meats but were certainly full enough on all the other selections. The shrimp were very good! (and dessert was to die for).

Don't forget the fruity drink with an umbrella. ;)

I am glad you enjoyed it. It is our favorite place. We usually start our vacation with a visit to 'Ohana's.
