This has probally already been posted somewhere on here - but I couldn't find it... Are there planned changes to 'Ohana's? A friend was just there and said that the server said the potatoes were off the menu on Feb 1? Does anyone know if this is true and what else might be changing? We have reservations for 16 people for my DD's 1st birthday in May.

thanks
Laura

I have read about some recent changes that people have experienced - sausage out, skewered shrimp back, but I heard that the potatoes were going to stay. Anyone???????

I would like to know this also. I have it booked for our upcoming trip in April, but may change it depending on what the menu changes are.

I'd like to know too. If the shrimp is back, we are definitely going to try it!

We just got back and I LOVE Ohanas!!!! We scheduled it at the last minute and got to see the fireworks with a window table!

We had the potatoes and they were wonderful. Don't know if they are going to be off the menu or not.
But we didn't get sausage, we got shrimp. Also steak, chicken, turkey, and pork.

I'm happy if the sausage is out. I have an ADR and the reviews on the sausage were mostly unfavorable.

The problem with the sausages were that they were usually dry and not very appetizing at all. Not much flavor to them. I'd much prefer the shrimp even though I'm not much into shrimp. It can't be as bad as the sausage.

I was just at Ohana's the night before last. When I was greeted by the "cousin" who walks you to your table (don't know what you would call him, the host?),
I was chatting with him. I asked if the skewered shrimp were still on the menu.
he said yes"but only for a couple more weeks". He said they were going to replace the potatoes with a pasta dish. There were no won-tons. Instead, I was asked to carry a small loaf of coconut bread to the table. It was dry and with no other accompaniments. Meat burnt. It was not a pleasant experience. The wings and salad were still good. All the food came out at once. The server poured the entire bananas foster sauce on top of the ice cream which instantly melted it.
We really used to enjoy this place. I looked around and saw only 3 other familiar faces, it seemed like everyone else was new.
I miss the way it used to be.

Say it ain't so!!!
My family loves the potatoes and the wontons.I love dipping the wontons in the peanut sauce.I hope the changes are not for good.We have ressies here
in Aug. Anyone know where I find the official word on this?:confused3

We had dinner there this past october and it was good but not great, especially if you look and value for your dollar. Dessert was so fab we got seconds. Service wasnt quality. They brought everything at once, and we felt rushed to eat but then when we needed refills on drinks, paying for our check and such we couldnt find service and asked several servers and the host who took 20-30 minutes to track down our servers.
The shrimp hadnt been deveined or cleaned well. I know its peel and eat but they should have washed and deveined it, right? We loved the potatoes, sauces for dipping and the skewered meat was good. Its just so sad when you look forward to eating at a favorite place and expecting to pay $$$ and the quality just isn't there.

I think we will try CP for dinner or head over towards Epcot next trip. Of course a lot can and will change by our next trip...LOL! It will be atleast Dec 2009 if not early 2010.

I wil miss the potatoes but a pasta dish might not be too bad. DS won't eat the potatoes but he may try pasta. I wish they would bring the rice back. I hope Disers will keep us up to date on the menu. If they are taking shrimp off the menu, then I am cancalling my ADR.

No, no, no! :sad1: The skewered shrimp and potatoes are our favorite items . I was going to make an ADR for August, but will definitely rethink it if they are making those kind of changes to the menu.

Don't know why they would mess with such popular items. They took the shrimp off and replaced it with sausage...everyone complained...the put the shrimp back on and people were happy...seems like a no brainer to me. As for the potatoes, I can't imagine a pasta dish that could compare to those heavenly potatoes. They are always mentioned as a favorite on the review boards.

Hopefully this is some bad info and we can all relax. Anyone seen anything official?

If this is the case they have just made my discision for me not to go to Ohana's in August. My boys and I love this restaurant. We know from reading the boards that when we are seated to let the server know that we would like to slow our meal down, and have always had an enjoyable time. Now my husband doesn't like the meals here at all especially after they took the rice away. So for our upcoming trip I keep trying to nudge him into dining there again but, if all of these changes are happening then I will probably just go ahead and only book the breakfast here.

My 180 day mark is just a few short days out  and we had planned on Ohanas for dinner. If the skewered shrimp, wontons, and potatoes are off the menu, I need to book elsewhere.

Does anyone have an "official" answer to the question ..."What menu changes are going to be made?". Others have reported that their server said the potatoes were staying and so was the skewered shrimp. Now I am soooooo confused.

I need to make a decision fast. Can anyone help me??????? Please!

Maybe if you call the restaurant directly they will answer your questions. I can only relate what what told to me.

Hi

It seems the menu is almost changing weekly! OK, I was there on Jan 3rd. No sausage; No wontons; No bread; What we got was : salad (no change), chicken wings and sweet & sour shrimp, potatoes, mixed veg and 4 types of skewers - steak, pork (really good), turkey and shrimp (yes again). Also, the sauces that you used to get with the wontons are still there - probably to help disguise some of the meat's dryness! I am pretty certain that the desert has changed from bread pudding & banana fosters sauce - but we didn't want desert so can't be 100%. I did mention to the server that I used to love the pineapple & caramal sauce and she said she could get some that they serve for breakfast if I wanted. I passed as we were really stuffed.

Meal was pretty good by the way.

Rich

Can you call the restaurants direct? If so, where would I find that info? Thanks.
Disney Dining will give you the number. They gave it to me when I made our reservation because we have an allergy. I didn't keep it because I knew I wouldn't call. Sorry.

Im really upset over these changes. I made ADR's and sold my whole family on eating here based on the previous menu. The shrimp change isnt a problem... we all love shrimp in any form but I was really looking forward to trying the potatoes. Maybe that change wont be in effect when we go week after next.
