Well, our annual dinner at Ohana was not what it used to be. The potatoes used to be one of my favorite things and I also really liked the green beans. When I expressed my disappointment to our server, he said that the Disney health officials decided to remove those items from the menu because of too much fat.

I'm just not sure where to go with that. I understand that somebody has to take a stand and start helping Americans eat healthier. But, I also know I loved those potatoes!!!!!

Ohana will probably become one of our favorites of the past and we'll move on to something else next time.

So they actually stopped serving the potatoes & green beans or are they just preparing them differently? That's nuts to just remove it- if you must change it, switch an ingredient don't just remove it. I won't get into the health debate but I eat healthy at home, I refuse to do it on vacation. Gimmie the goodies:headache:

I find this story incredibly hard to believe.

1) Me too.
2) If they are that interested in healthy food, why do they still sell
. . . ice cream
. . . pancakes
. . . bacon
. . . home fries
. . . etc

That doesn't make much sense. They replaced the potatoes with a peanut butter pasta dish. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually has more calories and fat. And it's an all-you-can-eat meal. If the Disney health patrol is so worried about what everyone is consuming, they should only serve limited "healthy" portions.

We were there last month for the first time ever and loved it! If they wanted to be healthier by eliminating the potatoes then they should go one step further and get rid of the dessert too...actually no more dessert anywhere just serve fruit! And no bread, get rid of all bread period! And no more sauces, lets just eat steamed fish and veggies and grilled chicken breasts!

:lmao: :cool1: :thumbsup2 :rotfl: :rotfl2:

If I want to eat high fat, cholesterol, calorie... whatever... foods I will. I don't want anyone telling me what I can and cannot eat. I don't know how many people feel the same way I do, but if Disney is going to move to this healthy food shinanagans then they will probably lose business.

I don't really remember the potatoes... but I can make them at home. I'm down for trying new items. But restaurants around the world change their menus all the time. I know people love certain items but its only normal for Disney to change their menus as time goes on.

Seems like a strange maybe misquoted or misunderstood reason. (Not by you. However the info was passed down or interpreted.)
There is too many unhealthy heart attack on plates being served to knock a few dishes off completely. :confused3
Now I could see something being prepared different.

Earlier this year DH and I had lunch at Capn' Jacks. DH ordered some sort of crab pattie dish or appy. The manager was walking around asking diners how their meal was.
DH mentioned to the manager that he liked the way they use to serve the crab cake sandwich. He said what he ate was good, but what they use to serve was much better. (He loved it.)
The manager was explaining they were redoing how they cooked and for the time being were preparing it different due to that. (Forget all the details he gave now.)

But something like that might have bearing on how they prepare food -- having to meet specific standards.

Someone posted several months ago that they had talked to the chef at O'hanas about it. He told them that supposedly WDW is getting rid of all the foods that contain trans-fat, and that the potatoes didn't taste very good when they were made minus the trans-fat. So he/they decided to get rid of the potoates, and substitute with the noodle dish instead.

Now that makes sense. Trans fat is very big on being eliminated throughout the states.
Although I cannot imagine that wonderful creamy dish of pasta at Tutto's made with light cream and butter as being "healthy". :lmao: (But oh so good! )

Remember that all Disney World burgers and hot dogs are now served on that wheat bun mess. I'm taking my own white burger and hot dog buns on my next trip.

I remember that post! It would make sense that it was just misinterpreted and passed along like that by the current waiter.

Don't even joke like that!

So they won't sell those side dishes because of too much fat but they sell the kitchen sink at Beaches & Cream.

ok - the no trans fat I get - but they cant make an au gratin potato w cheese and cream? (all natural but HIGH fat - YUM! but probably too expensive for a buffet - they have the au gratin at Yachtsman!)

okay, I don't have food allergies, I can and do eat everything but the kitchen sink. Yes, I could lose a few pounds, LOL. I was just making the point that some people have allergies and this could trigger a negative reaction. Not to mention that people just plain ol' don't like whole grain breads! I can't imagine there wouldn't be a choice! That is so lame. Not to mention, I just saw a picture, and I can't remember where, that a member of the Disney family was pictured, and she could stand to lose a few pounds. Perhaps they should clean up their own house before dealing with the general public!!!! I think her name was Abigail, but I really don't recall. I just saw it yesterday! Hmmm, maybe on an AOL story when you log on????? I don't know, just stop being big brother! Take my money and let me be happy.
