Ohana Breakfast at lunch on MK Day?

Our first day in the parks will be on a December Monday. We have kids aged 3 and 5 and wanted to start in Magic Kingdom. (It's open from 9-10 that day. I know it's a more crowded day because it's the long MK day, but we really wanted to start our trip there since its their first Disney trip.) I currently have two ADRs that day that seem a bit un-ideal on the surface. We have an 11:40 Ohana breakfast (basically our lunch) and a 9:00pm BOG. I'm going to keep trying to adjust BOG dinner to earlier in the day because 9 seems too late for dinner. However my question is the Ohana one. Is it feasible to enter the Park at 9, spend two hours until 11 and then take the monorail to the Polynesian? Is it worth it? It seems like we'd spend somewhere about 3-4 hours of the day traveling to and doing this meal, but it's the only time the entire week that I could get these ADRs.

And, are two meals of this sort a bad idea in one day?

Thanks for the insight!

If this was not your first trip, I would say this is a fine idea, but not for your family on this trip. Picture your kids, the first time in the MK, and they are all enchanted. ANd you say...Come on kids, time to go. It's lunch time!

I like to kick off trips with a character meal, but never this way. I would look for lunch at BOG. It is not a character meal, but it is CS in the MK, and the kids will like the Castle. You do not need to leave, and you still get lunch.

I woudl ditch that BOG dinner. The opening hours in the MK can change, and often will in December. If they do, you want to get to the gates for RD because this is prime touring time, especially on what is going to most likely be a busy crowded day. Look for an opening for dinner at Crystal Palace. It is a fun character meal, and keeps you in the park. One should pop up, people are tweaking plans on a daily basis.

A character meal is a great way to start your Disney trip; however, I agree with Nancyg56 regarding not leaving the MK. Crystal Palace is our favourite character meal (has been a must do meal for us every trip for the last 10 years, sometimes even twice a trip:-) ). That gives your children an introduction to characters without the travel time because it's in the MK. Their first time in the MK will be so magical and they might not want to leave the park.
You could do breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Crystal Palace. Having said that, 'Ohana is a fantastic character breakfast too, just maybe not on your first day.

Thank you both. We are going back to the MK on Friday and have lunch reserved at the crystal palace so we are already set for that character meal and we have chef Mickey brunch on our last day (Saturday). Maybe we just ditch the Ohana breakfast/lunch. I'll keep thinking about it.

I hope you can get your BOG adjusted earlier. We waited SO long to be seated-standing, in the dark, outside, that we were starving and grumpy by the time our food came. Earlier is better for that ADR. Have a fantastic trip!

Hi, Anomaly711, I did find an earlier BOG. I managed to snag a 7:10 BOG which I'm good with. It'll be dark at that time in December, but it was WAY better than the 9pm slot. I still haven't decided on the Ohana breakfast at lunch, so if we do do that one, I figure the 7 hour separation between two sit down meals is OK. Thank you for sharing your experience at BOG.

Awesome! I personally would go for the 'Ohana meal. It's a nice way to break up the day, sit for a bit, refuel and continue your day at the park. It always seems like a hassle to leave the park, but once you're there, you'll be glad you did it (IMO!)

I'll chime in but I'm by no means a disney planning expert. My kids were almost 4 and 6 on our first trip. They are super early risers so we made park open and by 11ish, they were already droopy! We ended up eating lunch around 11 (which I love b/c it avoids lunch line crowds) and then back to resort for nap. Our whole family of 4 loves breakfast. So your plan to leave MK & hit Ohana for a brunch would have fit our family perfectly! Riding the monorail to Poly in our experience is pretty quick and we did it often b/c we love the food there.

I'm glad y

im glad you got an earlier supper. I would stick with the Ohana reservation. It literally takes no time to get to the poly from MK and your kids will not be disappointed about leaving for lunch when lilo, stitch, Mickey and Pluto are waiting for them. Keep the ressie!!
