Ohana--bad reviews lately--should I cancel this ADR?

... We have an ADR at Ohana next Tuesday for dinner-645pm--... VERY bad reviews...many people have said it was great in the past--...booked it...read of horrible service, people getting ill and thinking it is the shrimp or pork, food being just thrown at you ...going with 3 small kids--ages 6, 5 and 4....wonder if they will even like the food offerings. Should I cancel and try for something else--like Kona, the Wave, or something at our Resort (BWI)??? I am nervous about this ADR now. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Ohana is one of the TS offerings that is consisently inconsistent. It is a hit or miss restaurant. Service is good and bad...and yes they do throw-drop bowls of food on your table. The frequency of this documented in reviews is alarming, so you are right to question it. You never heard of many of today's complaints 10 years ago, nor did you hear people talking tickets rather than money. These things are related to the changes.

At Ohana you can find the food to be just right to over cooked. It is not uncommon to find some food offering missing as the grill reportly is unable to grill enough for guest making you wonder is this how they control expenses? Overall many complaints have nothing to do with differences of taste...this has to do with the basics of managing a restaurant (ie. service, quality, food preparation). This is also a restaurant where your table location makes a difference. Out in front of the grill is where you want to be...not by the lounge (bar) and it is worth waiting for a table not in the "over flow area."

The way I see its like this.....there is no real telling if what one person dislikes would be liked by you. To some people, a plate making a noise on a table when placed down is "throwing" the food at you. And over-cooked to one, is just right to another.

I would keep your ADR (as its hard to get one there) and se for yourself. Its the only real way to know if its right for you.

And BTW....its one of my fav places to eat. Hopefully you can enjoy it too....

I don't really get the "throwing" or "dropping" food issue. They've always just plopped the food on the table and walked away when I've been there but I haven't given it a second thought. Are they supposed to do something else? (I'm really asking not being sarcastic) I just wait for my "real" server (the one who introduced him or herself and took our drink orders) to swing back by to get a refill on a drink or any of the sides I really liked and want seconds of.

Food was wonderful. All the skewer meats (pork, shrimp, turkey, steak) were great! Loved the sauces. The wings were yummy. Even the salad was good. There was some entertainment but I would have liked more music and singing. The bread pudding dessert is to die for..... Just don't go here if you are a vegetarian. After dinner (if late enough), it's a short walk to the beach and you can watch the wishes fireworks from there -- great view. And at 9pm, the lighted boat parade passes by. If you are there earlier on certain nights, at 6pm, there is a welcome the night ceremony (I think Tues-Sat.) right outside the grand ceremonial house -- this includes some drumming and fire juggling by a performer from the Spirit of Aloha.
