OK so you guys have sparked my interest...

I was reading along the calculated points for 2010. I would love to take my new hubby, the girls, my mom, her hubby :( , and sister (9 total) to Disney for Christmas. I found a 2 Bedroom Concierge room at AKV (dates 12/19-12/25 - leave on 26) would cost 378 points.

First of all, what are the chances I can even find someone with that many points willing to rent them out?

Second, I think I would have to put out a request around the beginning of January, right?

Third, I have heard about adding on dining packages onto DVC rooms. Well would my DVC "landlord" take care of all of that?

So I was calculating this all together with dining and 4day MYW, I came up with a rough estimate of $7500 for 9 people.

The thing is, I calculated with just the 5 of us (new hubby and girls) and no DVC and I got around $6500 with a moderate resort, dining, and 4 day MYW.

And here I am planning Christmas at Disney when I haven't finished planning Honeymoon for this September.

Are you taking 5 people or 9 people? If you are pricing things out of course its a lot cheaper to only pay for 5.

You can also stay at a value for even less. (I am not knocking values, I stay at them sometimes myself) Its a different thing-- dvc or values or moderate.

Good luck. I LOVE planning out trips. I understand how you feel.

if i understood correctly:
if you remove 4 people from your vacation, you would pay about the same for 1 room at a moderate versus a TWO bedroom with concierge???!

figure it would cost their price of a park pass, & you get to stay in gorgeous, deluxe accommodations (including a full kitchen, king bed, whirlpool tub, great location, etc) with concierge foods & drinks ~ for free.....

i know what i would choose :rolleyes1

I know... I just can't believe it is true.

So is it easy to add the dining package and tickets when renting DVC points?

Yes, you just ask the owner to add it to your reservation. DVC members pay for the dinning plan when they arrive.

Tickets would be on your own as DVC members only have the option to get AP's for themselves.

You will need to find an AKV owner who is willing to be on the phone early that day in January as there are only 5 2 BR units with concierge privileges so start looking in November or December They could also be 5 one bedroom and 5 studio so it is important to be on the phone at 9am on Jan 19th. You may want to plan on a back up combination of rooms just in case and then be prepared to be on a waitlist if your first request doesn't come through.
