we have all adr's for 8. my dd just passed away :sad2: and we would love to take mom with us (august) to get her mind off of things, so that would make my table size to 9. does anyone know if i would have a horrible time switching, i mean is, does a table for 8 really fit lets say a table for 10 or do they usually put 2 tables of 4 together to make the table of 8? sorry if this doesn't make sense.

I have no idea. I just wanted to say how sorry I am about the loss of your DD.

It took me a while to realise that you were referring to your Dad and not your Daughter. Sorry to hear your news  I think the best you can do is try switching. If your trip is during free dining, you may find that it is difficult for restaurants to accommodate an extra person but there's no harm in trying.

I would call Disney dining, explain the situation and see what they can do.

Cheryl, your family is in our thoughts a prayers. I am so very sorry.

I would call and change the ones you can and keep the ones you can't. If there is a high chair in the mix, I have sucessfully used the old, "not 8 with a high chair, its 8 plus a high chair" line.

I just spent the day doing the same thing switching 6 to 7 for ADR's the week of Sept 22-29. Honestly it was a pain. First I couldn't just add a guest, I had to make a "new" reservation for 7, get new conf# number and then cancel the previous ADR. For Hoop-de-do she said I would have to call them directly because her screen did not allow for groups bigger than 6? For the Spirit of Aloha, I had to give up my Tues. night Level 2 seats to get seating for 7 on Thur at level 3? I even explained that one of my orignal 6 was my very small 3-year-old daughter but she insisted I change my reservations to 7! I only ended up changing 3 orf 7 reservations because it took so long and I was so frustrated. I decided to do the rest another day.

I am so sorry for you loss. :grouphug: I hope you can all expereience some Disney magic on your trip.

We recently had to add one more to a few ADRS. Some we could just change from 5 to 6. Others we needed to rebook (get a new conf #) and yet others we could keep the same conf # but had to change the time by like 10 minutes.

So, while it could take some manuvering, it can be done. Good luck!

I'm so sorry about your Dad.

I think the worst thing you can do is just show with 9 when your reservation is for 8. It's a very inconvenient change to make on the spot. I second the suggestion to call WDW-DINE, explain your situation. Some of the CM's are angels and will do their best to help. If you get someone that seems uncooperative, just politely hang up and try again.

oh thanks so much everyone for ALL of your kind words and thoughts. Yes, this is very hard for me especially since I was "daddy's little girl" He was a great man with a great heart loved all of his grandchildren. He was the type of grandfather that was "cool:cool1: to hang with". he will be definetly missed by all.

I have to call and change (hopefully) all my adr's this isn't going to be easy since we will be going for 9 nights:sad2: , but as long as we can keep my mom happy with some disney magic i think we alll will be ok.

update....

I called disney to change all of my adr's from 8 to 9 people.
some i changed time difference was by 5 or 10 minutes not bad.
However, some of them we couldn't change and the cm told me
"just go there and don't worry about it:confused3 " what's up with this?
I want to do the right thing, I don't want to go there and the lady/man
at the hostess stand gets p.o.'d at me because i added one more person in or we have to wait an extra 45 minutes just to get seated.
so, then i called again, getting another cm and the same thing happened.
should I keep calling?? maybe the 2 tables of 4 are really a 2 tables of 5??
what do you think??

Cheryl, so sorry for your loss. But, yes, I think a Disney vacation will do wonders to lift your Mom's (and your family's) spirits. We had a similar situation over Easter break. I tried to change 6 to 7 and was told that for most of my ADR they couldn't do it. There were no more available tables for that week! So, for our first ADR at 1900 PF, we only showed up with 6 (Dsis stayed back at the hotel) and we were seated at a table for 8 - they actually had to remove the chairs from our table! When I mentioned this to the CM -what we were told by Disney Dining, she said they don't really know what's going on at the actual restaurants, and that the CMs there will do everything they can to accomodate you. For the rest of the week, we showed up with 7 and we did indeed get to sit together at one table with absolutely no problems. So, for those you couldn't change, just explain to the CM when you check in and I'm sure they will be able to accomodate you. Have a great trip!

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I just wanted to say that we were at WDW in January and tried to make ADR's for five people. On two occasions, they didn't have anything available for five and the CM on the phone told us to make the reservation for four and tell them we had five when we arrived. When we got to the podium, it was no problem at all.

thanks, i will of course keep on trying to call and hopefully i will get my party of 9 instead of 8.

So sorry about your loss.

I will tell you that your party of 9 may well end up at a table for 8 anyway. We are a family of 5. I didn't get a couple of my "choice" times at certain restaurants because there were only places for 4, not 5. However, of the 9 TS meals we ate, at at least 4 of them we were sqeezed into tables for 4. (And our kids are teens.) It was irritating....but of course, I was not willing to wait extra time for a larger table. Someone else with a family of 5 told me that they ALWAYS make rervations for 6 no matter where they are, because they got so sick of being squeezed into tables for 4.

i just got off the phone with a cm i explained the situation
she checked for 9 however, of course there wasn;t any tables
for nine not even a table like 5/4 so she booked dinner as a single
person same time in the hopes the cast member would combined us together.
hope this works:confused3

At least for one of the meals, maybe you could do a special grand gatherings?
