I came home yesterday to find my DH in pain. His shoulder was hurting him and he figured he hurt it lifting weights during his workout the morning before. He was really complaining last night and I thought he was being such a baby about it. This morning it was still hurting and he went to the doctor who sent him for an MRI. Turns out she thinks he's torn his rotator cuff (sp?). So he's out of commission, likely looking at surgery and in short not looking forward to going to WDW.

Some 25th wedding Anniversary trip, huh?

major bummer. Shoulder surgery is reportedly the most painful procedure on the planet. Here's hoping he won't have to have it, but if he does: After his "grand opening" surgery and pzzztical therapy the best way to rehab it is a trip to WDW.

BTW, happy anniversary.

Really sorry to read about the mishap. It's pretty lousy when a healthy exercise bites you in the butt and the end result is an injury. Even worse when an anniversary trip to WDW has to be canceled.

We should be at FW now for our 38th. anniversary. First time since 1990's we aren't celebrating at WDW. Had a bad bicycle crash 10 weeks ago with fusion of neck possible.

Good luck to your husband and there will be other times for a WDW stay.

Thanks for the good wishes. I think we're still going, but I will probably drive and have to back our 34' fifth wheel into our site :scared1:

DH is also bummed that he won't be able to "enjoy" WDW. I told him he could still go on Soarin' (he's not much of a ride person anyway.) but he is mostly concerned with not being able to eat with his right hand. Leave it to my foodie husband to be mostly concerned about eating :rotfl:

Oh no, well, it can still be a fun trip. I hope all goes well with the shoulder.

I had shoulder surgery acouple of years ago and they did it orthoscopically. It was just 3 small holes in my shoulder so the healing was fairly easy. No major surgical cuts helps with the recovery time and the pain is so much less. Do you know how they will be doing his surgery? The physical theraphy was a pain in the butt, weeks and weeks. Still do not have 100% useage but have about 60%. If I had it to do over again, I probably would never have had the surgery.

Ok, the dr's office just called. He has a complete sub scapula tear and a possible tear in a pectoral muscle and lots of swelling. He's got an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon the Monday we get back. He'll definitely have to have surgery.

But our trip is still on. I take back all the "what a baby" thoughts I had last night. They're now replaced with "What a trooper!"

Kinda sounds like you may have to bait the hooks for him....and reel in his fish for him....and take the fish off and release them for him.

okay,,,maybe he shouldn't fish at all,,but some good pain killers mixed with Disney would have to have some fun value to the trip, :thumbsup2

My husband will be at FW to set up a trailer tomorrow. Do you need him to help with your parking and setup?

:idea:For your hubby's comfort you might ask his doctor to call in muscle relaxers and get a large supply of gallon sized zip lock bags to take with you! Ice during this time is going to be his best friend besides the pain meds he is going to be on! any restaurant on property should be able to give him more ice after his thaws. He is really going to need it to help with pain control and to reduce his swelling that will cause him added pain!!!! Hopefully his doctor gave him a good sling to help support his shoulder as well! I'm going to say a prayer now and keep him on my list!!! Good luck and have as magical trip you can under the circumstances!

I hope she gets the message. It would be no trouble to help and it may keep her DH from further injury.

Hope he enjoys himself. Puhleeze don't tell him what I said about shoulder surgery the most painful on the planet. That's not my opinion -- DH's orthopedist told him that. This was after DH fell out of bed, on vacation, and separated his shoulder. He eventually decided not to have surgery. It's permanently separated but healed enough that it doesn't bother him very often.

I've had serious shoulder issues and pain for the past 6 months. It would be helpful for him to have an abductor sling with you while traveling. Its not like an arm sling, but looks like a foam pillow you rest on your hip and it raises your arm to a 90 degree angle to take the pressure off of the shoulder. Maybe it can provide some relief until you get back and he goes into surgery. He'll actually probably be issued the abductor sling after surgery anyway.

Good luck!

You are all so sweet. Thanks for all the advice and Tina, I've got your number, but I'm going to bed now since we're getting up at 3:15 to hit the road by 4:00.

BUT... You are never going to believe this...

I was helping hitch up the fifth wheel so we could just get in the truck and pull away tomorrow and after we THOUGHT it was hitched my husband started to pull up the driveway and CRASH! The hitch let go and the front end of the camper came crashing down onto the bed of the truck :scared1:

We spent the last two hours trying to get it back up high enough to hitch again. I called AAA but they arrived so late we had just finally gotten the camper up enough and the mechanic did the heavy-looking-on while we hitched again and tested it.

I'm so exhausted now. DH *did* get some serious painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs from the Dr. I've packed ice packs for him. He also did get a sling. Prayers are very much appreciated and if anyone is around the 800 loop and you see an AmeriCamp Fifth wheel, that's probably us, since we requested 800. And if there's a man in a sling outside, it's definitely us. Please wish us luck. Hope to get there tomorrow safe and sound.

PM SENT!! Im sure there are enough of us here now that can help sent you a PM with my number call or txt, the FAM and I would be more then happy to help out!! we have no plans this weekend but to enjoy the fort and friends!!

Last year I had a stroke. I'm right handed and that's the hand that was affected.

Until the hand started working again I did fine with the left.
