Oh no! Not the Selfie-Sticks...

The reason I will be taking one is so all our family can all be in a photo together, I don't think that its selfish...
Not selfish. But that's what Photopass is for. Just sayin'...
Looks like I am going to have fun photobombing all these people with selfie sticks :)
You naughty DISer, you! ;)

Although seeing the phone drop into the water might have been an interesting addition to the ride.......
I would pay extra to see that.

The stick is light weight and collapse down so it fits into your backpack so to me its no extra hassle.
Some of them do collapse but many of them don't. Some are as long as a golf club.
you make it sound like I'm vain and constantly want to take photos of myself
There would appear to be no other reason to have one. You can always ask the person next to you to take your photo if no Disney photographer is around. How many photos do you need of your family every day?

At least 90% or so of tripod users understand cameras and give personal space to others.

Frankly I'd rather be poked with someone's selfie stuck than having a sweaty stranger pressed up against me in line...bleccch. Some people don't respect others' personal space, stick or not.

Not selfish. Cheap. That's what Photopass is for.

I bought PP on my last trip and we still took a few selfies. There's not a PP photog on every corner. We wanted to take a pic with our Dole Whip to send to DH at home. Don't worry, Disney still made plenty of money off me that week.

Unreal. I can't think of a place less hospitable to selfie sticks than the WDW parks, especially MK.

Seems like they would cut into the Photopass business as well.

I so agree about the selfie sticks! But Disneys policy on tripods is that they are allowed. I've brought mine many times into the parks. I wouldn't mind seeing the sticks be banned though. :)

What's that saying? Stand tall and carry a big stick. Better idea: Hand me your stick so I can whack you with it.

I understand the selfie stick. I understand when it could be useful. What I don't understand why people my age can't give courtesy and think about those around them.

My college and high school kids are polite and try to be conscious of those around them. Most of their friends do too, but there are those in their age brackets who don't always pay attention. A quick polite response to them will receive an apology.

:offtopic:I'm thinking about bringing one of those imaginary dogs with me on my next trip. Remember the wire stick that just "walks" in front of you? I could hold him up in the air and have him be a flag for my large group; wrap an extra wire so he is my selfie stick; and because I say it's a dog, I will walk across the grass areas so he can relieve himself. :rotfl2: Just kidding about all that.

Just returned from Disneyland and they were everywhere! The thing that worried me were the people who used them while riding. One bump they could lose it. It might cause a ride closure while the CM go retrieve it off the track or fix something that was broken. Worse would be someone getting hurt from the flying projectile.

My best friend who works at Everest hates the selfie sticks so much. I think I recall him saying they've been spieling not to use them on the ride (safety reasons and whatnot).....but people don't listen. Especially anything that's counterproductive to them doing what they want lol

Just got back, saw plenty of selfie sticks. Surprisingly I did not see one selfie stick raised during the castle show or wishes. I did see many kids raised on shoulders and Mickey balloons blocking the view. Especially with the construction going on at the hub, this was more of an issue than before.

I wanted to take a stick this trip but just didn't take time to pick one up. I wanted to get some shots with a different perspective with the stick.

I do have a concern with riders and sticks especially on rides like Space Mtn. Seems like that would be dangerous with a camera on a stick with an outstretched arm. With the possibility of hitting ride structures I can't beleive Disney would allow the sticks on rides.

Do they?

Anyone know of a policy?

Wow I din't know I was ahead of the curve on this trend. I used one May 2011. Didn't like it as a selfie stick, just used it like a short mono pod.

Used it to film the MSEP from the ground resting on my foot.

Unless you hoisted it above your head (for the most flattering angle) and made a duck face, you probably weren't really using a "selfie stick". ;)

Don't get the hate, when I'm at Disney I'm not looking around for reasons to complain, I'm having fun. But that's just me.
The hate comes when the people who are using them interfere with people who are not using it. The first time someone blocks your view or smacks you with one you will understand.

Yep they have, I was actually hit in the head a couple times this week by them. Annoying.

Was there last week and kept a running count of how many we saw. 22 in 4 days. Funny thing though, we didn't really see anyone doing anything obnoxious with them. Worst I noted was the guy walking with his up above his head and trying to watch the screen instead of where he was going. Fortunately he bumped into someone in his group before anyone else. Saw some group shots and some just hanging on peoples' backpacks, but never saw one out on a ride or blocking views of shows. Of course, that's just one group's experience in one week. Could be much worse by the time we go back in December.

I can completely understand that in crowded Firework shows or Parades that Selfie sticks will be annoying but i am going to come to the defence of them.

Yes you could find a cast member to take a pic but alot of people wouldn't and if your a lone traveler or in a pair, your not going to get that special picture you may want on your 'Once in a lifetime trip'

I wouldn't pull it out and extend it to full length while waiting for a ride but whats the issue in front of the castle for example?

I think they're cool and I don't even own one. Don't get the hate, when I'm at Disney I'm not looking around for reasons to complain, I'm having fun. But that's just me.

I'm sure your tune will change when you get whacked with one.

The sticks should be banned from rides at the very least. Then when someone wants to do what they want to do instead, they can be told to leave.
