Our boss announced that we will have a third exercise to apply for our own jobs in 18 months. We are the first directorate within the DWP to undergo so many. This time we are being cut from 110 people to 50. We look after the fixes for the main benefit systems which will obviously go up the spout over the next few years. If i get through this time they have said that all the work is going to the private company who do the fixes for these systems by January 2008 and likely all be done in India where the work is moving to, so i will have no work but they wont offer me a pay off to leave. They will make my life harder for my family by making us (DW works in the same dept) travel too far to work which will force us to leave eventually as we cant cope with the school an childminding.

Next time you see the press slamming arrogant overpaid civil servants think of people like us who are having their livelyhood driven down by a Government with no family morals.

That really sucks. Do you think you'll try to find something local now or wait it out and see what happens? Why are they moving everything to India?

You'll get no arguments from me about this government and its shameful disgusting policies and conduct.

That's a terrible shame Rob, I agree that the government is not doing much at all to keep any industry in this country and its doubley bad that you both work for the same department. Am I right in thinking you've got 18 months to go before this cuts in? is there any hope of one of you getting other work in the meantime so when the shift comes it'll just mean one of you is affected?

No arguments from me.

Hope things work out well for you Rob.

You poor thing, what a nightmare. :sad2:

Would it not be in your best intersts to look for something else now before they make the cut, it doesn't have to be DWP but maybe something similar.

At the end of the day family and health comes first, i've just lost my MIL and having already lost both my parents, nothing, and I mean nothing is worth this much stress, your family are everything.

I left my job because I hated it and started my own business, granted you may not be able to do the same but there will ALWAYS be something else, even in the interim until you find what you really want.

Good luck with whatever path you choose. :grouphug:

Sorry to hear your news Rob, I hope everthing works out for you both

What a horrible situation.

I hope everything works out for you both :grouphug:

Its beyond belief that everything seems to be moving to India. When will someone realise that the public don't like it! Good luck with finding something else.

This is just dreadful, I am really sorry that you and yours are being put under such stress and things work out for you all

My company has just stopped using Indian call centres after spending £M's on setting them up. They won't publicise it though because if they said "all our call centre operations are back in the UK" it might be seen as being racist!

As for Cochise - sorry to hear your news sir. Having to re-apply for your job is horrible, even worse when you know they'll be naff all in the end anyway. Good luck in whatever happens.

If that becomes the case you should have very strong grounds for constructive dismissal. Make sure you're seen to be flexible until the company's expectations on flexibility become too excessive.

In the meantime, keep your chin up and your head down. Don't let the company think you are fishing for a good pay-off, they'll just think you have another job coming up and hope to lose you through natural wastage.

.

and just how ridiculous is that? I really hate all the p.c. stuff we're supposed to find acceptable these days, what ever company you work for stating your call centres are uk based should be a huge plus

Sorry to hear your news, Rob. I hope things work out for you whether you choose to stick it out or move on :grouphug:

You've got my support :thumbsup2

Rob and Family, Im so so sorry to hear this :grouphug: :grouphug: Im hoping that all works out well for you both and sending you loads of luck and hugs my friend :grouphug: :grouphug: :wizard:

It seems to be the 'in thing' to outsource these days. Unfortunately rather than do the decent thing by the staff over here organisations would rather drive people out by making their lives so miserable they have to leave saving a fortune in redundancy payments and avoiding bad publicity (after all what story is there in somebody leaving a job of their own free will). I hope everything works out for you and the family Rob :grouphug:
