11 days before we leave and my dd7 gets the chicken pox.any ideas on what to put on them,to get them to heal faster.

Not sure how to make them heal faster BUT if you use benadryl to stop the itching along with Aveeno anti itch cream which will take out the itch and keep it moisturized it might help.

Good luck and hope she's not feeling crummy with them!

Calamine lotion will help them "dry up", but can make them itchy ... I suggest doing the calamine AND the Aveeno stuff on a rotational basis. I used the Aveeno bath soak for DD when she had them years ago.

Part way through the week, we had to switch from Benadryl to something else because the Benadryl was making her very hyper and she didn't sleep. :headache: The pharmacist recommended something else, and told me that you sometimes have to switch up the meds for the best effect.

Your DD should be fine by your trip ... she will still have spots so be prepared for questions about whether or not she should be going in the pool. We found that the lifeguards at our public pool totally understood that she was no longer contagious, but other parents in the pool were quite verbal about us taking her swimming (this was at our local pool on March break - 2 weeks after DD got them).

Good luck ... could be worse, she could have got them AT WDW, or like us, on the 2-day drive home which turned our precious little 2 year old into a screaming maniac hallucinating from her car seat. "I don't WANT Fishy Crackers ... Stop giving them to me" ... Ummm, we didn't even HAVE any Fishy crackers in the car. :rolleyes1

Good Luck.

Aveeno also make a soothing oatmeal bath, that really helped my son when he had the pox! That Aveeno cream is excellent!

When I had Chicken pox as an adult I was told to take a bath in baking soda it drys the pox up. Also, I was given a rx medication (don't know the name sorry) that dried them up. I bet they were all scabbed over w/i a week.

HTH

is great for the itching. Watch for fevers (which is normal - the body is fighting an infection) that get too high and discolouring of the pox.
When my kids had them, I used Aveeno oatmeal baths. Just be sure you purchase unscented ones as you don't want the pox to get infected.
They should scab over on their own in less than a week.
When my son got them, we were in Niagara Falls. He had a couple of red spots on his face. We didn't think much of it as it was hot and could have been little pimples from sweating. He went swimming, saw the sights, etc.
Woke up the next morning and he was completely covered from head to toe! Poor guy! Everyone looked at him like he was some kind of monster.
Calomine lotion is great too.

Baking soda in the bath water will draw them to a head and help dry up faster. I did it for my 3 and it works. Also use the calamine lotion when she gets out of the tub. Give her a shot of Benadryl and she'll be good to go!

Has everyone else in your family had chicken pox already? Your child is contagious until the spots crust over. Make sure your daughter's fingernails are trimmed really short in case she is scratching!

Warm up the calamine lotion in the microwave (use a lid so it does not squirt everywhere!). My children loved the warm soothing feeling.

Should be ok within 1 week.

just an update on my dd it looks like it is going to be a mild case only 1 spot on her face and a couple on her legs, well now that i put it down in writing lets hope i don't jinks her. thanks for all the good advice everybody.
