Oh No! - Another thread on Aulani construction

Are those train tracks in the 3rd photo in use? They kind of look like a narrow gauge track, like those used for pineapple/sugar plantations.

I was wondering about the train tracks too....

The narrow gauge tracks are indeed used. A small train with small viewing cars rolled by one day while we were there, but that was it. We were always away from the resort during the days so if it has a daily schedule I missed it. That particular picture was taken from across the main Ko Oline main roadway with my back to the small store complex. It will definitely get a big economic boost from Disney traffic, especially the ABC grocery that is there.

I saw on another thread today that posted the Yesterland Construction photos, that the train tracks are part of a tour. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2505289

I too agree that high rise buildings are common on Oahu because it is more built up. And they serve their purpose, lower construction costs and more guests on less acreage. I think Aulani is going to look fabulous.

I don't dispute that it will look fabulous. It's a Disney/DVC property, and if there's one thing Disney does well, its building nice resorts. It's just when I go to Hawaii, I prefer to be more secluded and away from that "more guests on less acreage" class. The resorts on Oahu serve a good purpose, I just don't think it suits my purpose as well as the other islands do. We usually only stay on Oahu for a couple of days out of a 3 week trip.

I really wasn't too excited about Aulani at first, but now I think I might try to get a reservation at 7 months. I have friends that live on Maui, so we could visit them, and extend the stay at Aulani.

Wow! You'll actually try Aulani? Aren't you the guy who ALWAYS stays at OKW? :rotfl2:

You are correct, I have used my points only at OKW since 1992. But with friends both in Hawaii and California that have been asking us to come visit, I think both Aulani and VGC will be an occasional stop.

Thanks OP for taking the time to post these to share. It looks like its going to be great! Don't see buying there, we're just too far away.
