My daughter just called and told me I can get mad and yell at her if I want to. She said after school she saw some jr. high boys tormenting a kitten and she picked it up and brought it home. We already have 2 cats, a chow and a pomeranian. We just lost a long haired guinea pig that I hated. I don't need another pet. I told her she had to find someone to take the kitten but I know once it's brought home we're stuck with it. Just needed to complain.

Will your other cats get along with it? If not then she has to understand that it wouldn't be fair to keep the kitten. I just have to add, bless her heart for rescuing the poor kitty :cheer2:

Take her to a no-kill shelter, that way your daughter will feel secure that the kitten will find a good home. Try posting on www.catster.com and make a free account. Join an adoption group and someone in the area might find a great home for him/her. You can also try www.nextdaypets.com . Good luck, and tell your daughter she did a good job saving the kitten's life.

Is she sure that its a stray? I would hate to be the people who lost their dear kitty and didn't know what happened to it. Just a thought.

Deanna :cat: :bored:

I would give her a great big hug for being compassionate towards animals. :cat: If you determine it's a stray I would work with her to finding it a spot in a rescue organization or no kill shelter.

You did a great job raising your daughter. I think its wonderful that she chose to help the cat. :sunny: That doesn't mean you have to keep the cat. I'm just like you, though. Ds brought a kitten home last year and hid it in his closet. I almost fell over dead when I opened his closet and saw it. Ds had been begging for a RAT the month prior so when I saw an animal in a cage I screamed...very loudly. I told him I wanted the cat OUT that night.

That was a year ago. The cat has the run of the house. Everyone loves her including our lab mix mutt. I still can't believe we added an animal to the house.

I hope you're able to find a new home for the kitten.

She asked a couple of her friends that live in the area if they knew who it belonged to and they didn't. We're a small town and I put on the local radio that we found the kitten and no one has called. This kitten is very young maybe 4 weeks old. I've bought replacement milk and the little bottles for it. We've got the word out so if it does belong to someone they can reach us. I really think it's been dumped or something happened to it's mother. If no one claims it and we don't find someone who wants it then it's probably ours. Actually anything is better than the guinea pig.

I'll never forget when my now 22 yearold DD came home after band practice in 6th grade with an emancipated kitten she found hanging around the school. I was peaved, but didn't say anything and made it a bed in the laundry room, tried to get it to take some milk.....
the poor thing didn't make it thru the night. I sat up with it.
I told my DD she did the right thing, as that kitten didn't die cold and alone.

Sometimes you just gotta be proud of having loving caring kids. Esp. when you hear stories of bullies torturing animals........ :grouphug:

God Bless your DD. I am glad she is a kind, caring, compassionate young lady.
My DD would do the same thing....actually, I do it all the time! LOL!
My Dh says nothing cause he knows it will do no good. All our pets are rescues. They love us, we love them....1 dog, 5 indoor cats and 1 stray cat that has claimed us, but won't live inside.

That's how we have gotten all our cats. My daughter's rescue them and bring them home to me. Of course, I am a sap and the minute the kitten hits my arms all is lost and it has a forever home.

If you were here, I'd take it!! We just lost our cat last month and I'm waiting for the right one to amble into our home. DH has emphatically told me no, but he's said that about just about everything...and I still seem to get them...funny how that works...
