Oh my gosh...Paris Airport Terminal Collapses

:( And it was pretty new too. Makes you wonder a little.

Yes, heard it. My dh called from France yest. Other weird stuff is happening there too. He was in Paris and he had to be evacuated from the Louvre. He saw swarms of police and didnt know what was happening. He then heard people say "le bomb, le bomb." Him and a co worker threw their luggage in a taxi and told him to head to the train station immediately. They said the whole neighborhood and streets where they were in was shaking from the explosion. They dont know if it was a real bomb or something the police thought was a bomb and dediced to detonate it anyway. He saw the one guy in the protective bomb suit. I am glad he is now in another part of france.

Oh boy. Prayers and pixie dust that he stays safe over there.

:earseek: those pics were amazing and sad...

I was hoping my mom missed this news item, but sure enough I had an email from her first thing this morning. She's going to Europe for the first time this summer with my sister and she just told me yesterday that she's flying home from Charles de Gaulle.

Now I just have to convince her that it's ok to go ahead anyway. I'd hate to have her miss out on this trip!

So I've been here for the last two weeks and this incident was definitely the talk of Paris yesterday. JP arrived at CDG to fly back to New York at around 8 AM and he said he thought it was a bomb for sure, looking at the wreckage. This accident kind of reminds me of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, where it seems that wind shear was an issue? In any case I definitely have my fingers crossed that they don't find any more bodies and that the injury victims recover.

My SIL went to Paris on Friday. I'm glad she chose to arrive then than on Sunday.:(

Sounds like an engineering or construction flaw. This will probably end up on that engineering disasters show.

What really bothers me is that the first thought that went through my mind was "bomb" - how things have changed...

I saw this yesterday morning, honestly DH and I weren't all that suprised.

There are many parts of CDG that I'm just waiting for them to crumble. Our first trip over there I was pretty well convinced that we had entered a third-world country.

I'm sure they were in such a hurry to get this new section done that it had major problems. They also said there were warning signs prior to the collapse, for some reason I doubt there was anyone around to clear the area either. The lack of employees in that place always shocks me. When we were flying out to Copenhagen from there last time someone ran through an un-staffed metal dector area and set it off, no one showed up. Some passenger standing there handled the woman.
