My 5yo was asking about her aunt who just had a c-section and introduced dd's first cousin.

She asked what they do after they cut a hole in her tummy. I said they stitch it.

To which she replies...."With what? A sewing machine?"

So funny! Reminds me of my 5 year old who asked me a few months ago how babies get out of the mommy's bellies. I was trying to get out of it easily, and said that the doctors take the baby out. "How?" she asked. "Well, sometimes they cut open the mommy's belly and take the baby out, then they sew up the mommy's belly." She says "Ewww..."

A few minutes later, she's digested this and asks "So the doctor had to sew up your belly?" Now, I had a natural childbirth with her... so I answered "No..." and was going to start to tell her in 5 year old terms how she was born when she yells "Ewwww! They didn't sew you up?! They left you open?!"

Out of the mouths of babes, they say the cutest things.

When my youngest DD was 6 she figured out how to set up the message on the answering machine. It said please leave your name, age and phone number and we might call you back. I left that on my answering machine for months, all my friends loved it.

They do keep us in stitches, don't they? Our own little comedians! DD5 got me twice this week. Two nights ago, they would not settle down for bed, so I said "If you don't quiet down, I am going to call Daddy." DD5 said "Good, I forgot to kiss him goodnight!" Then last night, we were watching The Wizard of Oz and she asked who the little people were. I told her they were munchkins and she said "you mean like at Dunkin' Donuts?"

You could really tell your 5 YO that most likely her aunt had staples, that were put in with a stapler! Most likely that was what was used. Of course, they specifically manufacture skin staplers for this purpose!

When I had Puggles spayed, I took my sister who was around 4.5 (24 years younger than me) at the time with me to pick her up. I was explaining to her that she'd have to be extra gentle with her since she just had surgery and has a big boo boo on her belly. She asked why she needed to have surgery. I told her, "you know how Puggles was a girl?" She did. I said, "well now she's an it." My sister put this grin on her face and said, "I can't wait to see this!"

If my five year old had been in on your conversation he would have added that they would have to clean the "food" off the baby first (if they are born from the stomach they must be covered in food).
