As someone who operates a large forum and website, I know the impact of these ads. It is much needed revenue to operate websites.

I would rather have 100 ads on a page than have to pay for content!

I am also a website/forum operator and must say that I hated the initial google ads we had so they went and we are small enough to be able to fund ourselves, BUT if revenue from advertising is needed then a suitable advertiser to complement the website would be used ie travel agency, ticket seller, car hire etc.

Most of the Dis advertisers are in direct responce to the theme of the boards but the one advertising winning something is not and in my honest opinion is like having spam being advertised.

The trouble with this one is that it is an untruth. We are all apparantly visitor number 999.999 no matter how many times we view on this board.

Anything which keeps the boards going is good news, although I have to say they simply don't register with me (probably not what the advertisers want to hear).

and i still haven't seen it.....
onscreen adverts rarely bother me...for some reason i barely notice them...tunnel vision i guess...

i just posted this and then looked around for the advert and still can't find it....maybe my screen looks different than yours? perhaps, it's because i'm not in the UK?...hmmmm....strange....
on my screen there are only ads at the top (for various travel deals)...

I'm quite happy for anything that keeps the boards going to be advertised. I have to admit that after the initial recognition of them, they no longer register with me.

I hadn't noticed them until now so I voted 'don't care'. If it means the boards can get money I don't mind really.

Apparentely, the DIS webmasters don't see the Ads in advance. Google has certain ads appear that are triggered by key words.

The webmasters do their best to monitor them and the vast majority are not a problem. As you know, they're constantly changing which adds to the 'fun' of keeping an eye on them. Just refresh a page and you often get all new ads.

The problem Ad. for the Audi has now been 'blocked' so should disapear in the next day or so

It doesn't bother me at all I see them maybe once and then I ignore them!

Anything that keep's the board's FREE is a good thing? People can always help the Board's by sponsoring them.


I suspect to keep this board free rather than a subscription board, advertising is the only way to do this.

What about recruitment adverts for undesirable organisations?

Or "adult" adverts directed at children (alcohal, smoking etc).

I know you haven't been a member for long Harry, but I haven't seen anything that has worried me since the adviertising has started - if you should see them please advise a Webmaster directly.

I don't mind the normal ads especially if they're relevant but hate the current one as it's all flashy

Of course it would be good to be on a totally ad-free forum, but it costs money, and they're not that bad.

A simple banner at the top of the page isn't going to stop me coming on here, or annoy me too much, I just ignore them, I'd rather the forum keep going to it's full capacity than have to pay for membership and lose a lot of members.

as i posted about this add before most know i it think its annoying.Adds in general i dont mind but ive been the 999,999 visitor for a while now and thats misleading
