Oh, I'm devastated, we just lost the cabins...

I called to apply the FL resident discount and was told they were all gone for the duration of our stay. We can't justify the expense of the cabins for 6 nights without the discount. I switched us to Port Orleans Riverside.

I was SO looking forward to the relaxation of the cabins to come home to, and I know my little girls were very excited about everything there.

The lady at Disney was so incredibly helpful, I was blown away, but I'm still struggling to accept this change.

Time to go and learn more about our new resort...but basically, we're back to "it's just a hotel," and spending more time away from it to avoid being all cooped up.

I am so sad.

Would the BAT code that mousesavers alerted us to today not work for your arrival? I noticed that the stated cut off for a black out was like 11/23 thru 11/27. It looked like the rate was $169 (regular season); don't know if that compares to a FL resident but it's a discount!

...that all the discounted rooms were gone. My FIL is going to try through his travel agent to see if they had a block reserved or something...I don't know. I'm looking at the allearsnet pics and just shrugging, saying, "yeah, okay, it's a hotel."

I'm just depressed. I'm sure I'll move on, but it's such a letdown. First we adjusted our plans from the Animal Kingdom over to the cabins. I let go of the animals on the savannah to rally for enthusiasm over the freedom and space and relaxation of the cabins. Now I'm just sitting here, going, "Port what? Oh, Dixie Landings, yeah, okay, whatever...." For a few crazy minutes I considered just doing the cabins anyway, but the extra money is just crazy, we'll be paying less than half that at Riverside.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

My advice is not to give up. We went in July and could not get the AP rate for the preferred sites, only for the full hook ups. I tried for several weeks, but then to my amazment, 10 days before our arrival we were able to get a preferred site at the AP discount. Apparently they add more sites as they determine availability. If it looks like the campground will be slow for that period they may add more along the way. Also any cabins that were booked at the FL Resident rate and get cancelled for whatever reason will again become available. So keep your reservation for POR, but keep trying and with a little pixie dust maybe you will be able to secure your first choice between now and then. Also look for other codes on mousesavers that you may be able to apply.

Thanks for the encouragement; I'll try that. I broke it to Caroline, and she took it fine, looking at the pool at POR, thinking it looked pretty cool. The resort does look very nice; just the hotel room looks b-o-r-i-n-g and generic, and I hate to think of being all crammed in it together.

One good thing, though; my FIL and MIL are coming with us for the first 4 nights, so my SD will bunk in with them for 4 out of the 6 nights, which will be less crowded.

I know from experience that the rooms don't matter all that much at Disney, you're so busy you just crash; a kitchen and backyard puts a whole different spin on it, though. I wonder if I can smuggle in a toaster without violating the fire code?

We can still do sandwiches, we'll get a fridge. I can do cereal and snacks, and so on....but this will mean a few more PS arrangements....back to the itinerary!!

It's a good thing I like planning.

Love,

Kris

We also were told no FL resident discounts for our dates on the cabins. I thought that was pretty amazing seeing as I got through within the first hour after the codes were released last week. I wonder if they didn't even put the FL. codes on the cabins??

Anyway, luckily enough they did have BAT for our 3 night stay available. We are paying 565. 00 for 3 nights inc. tax. It's a little steep compared to what we have been getting with the Fl. resident discount but I'm not complaining.

By the way, check back right on Sept. 8th and also Sept. 9th. These are the days the deposits are due for the folks who made ressies on the first and second days codes were out. It is very possible that you can get a cabin using BAT or EWO but call first thing in the morning. Good Luck!

BTW-We stayed at POR 7/1-7/3. We enjoyed our stay very much. Yes, it's not Ft. Wilderness but go in with an open mind and I think you will find lots of things to do around the resort. It does have beautiful landscaping and a great swimming area and the boat to DTD can't be beat.

I will check back, thanks. I must admit, POR does look beautiful. I don't really care very much about DTN, I expect to go there once, but that's about it. We have little kids; it's the parks we're into....but still, it's an interesting variation.

Thank you for your advice!

Kris

Have you tried to budget your money where you can stay part of your trip in a cabin and part at another hotel? That way you can check out both to see which you like better! Just an idea!;)

...into which we can cram five people, so I don't think I can swing that, but I do like the idea of hopping resorts, so I'm willing.

Hi there, I'd had cabin reservations for some time for Columbus Day weekend, was turned away several times when I tried to apply the BAT code -- but just idly called the other day to give it ONE more try and got it! You may be happy now with your new arrangements -- but it's possible you can get a break on FW cabins if you hit at just the right time! :sunny:

PS I called WDTC at the 877-# when I lucked out with the code. I bombed out on the direct WDW number. I don't know what parallel universe they're on, but WDTC is a tad luckier, IMHO!

...I told you I'd adjust. We're settled into POR for 4 nights, and then, you see, the two rooms I'd been trying for since day 1, Savannah bunk beds, at AKL, opened up...so now my daily struggle is to apply the discount to THOSE rooms....but I think we'll keep them anyway, for the two nights, if I can't get them. I still think we'd have a blast at the cabins, but I'll try them for next trip. There's the teensiest little rumour that my mother might work up her nerve to go with just me and the little girls in May...so I could consider trying the cabins then.

Thank you for all the encouragement!

Kris
