Amen Sister!! Well said!

It's not a crime because we have a kid (or more than one) that can be described as "picky"! Big deal!! And saying that it somehow RUINS your dining experience is ridicules! I mean really....how often does a kid at the table next to you pitch a fit because there's no chicken nuggets???
at that point it's a parenting issue, not a "picky" eater issue..

but regarding someone being "picky" about their food choices or letting their children be picky, not to sound rude, but who cares? :confused3 (and I'm not saying that because anyone in my family is picky.. we aren't)

I started reading this thread because, well because I've been piddling around on the Dis boards all week-end - going to different categories than I usually do. I have a house full of "picky" eaters (not a badge of honor, just a factual statement) but in Nov hubby & I have booked a "no kids" trip (kids are 16, 18 & 20). Hubby originally booked it to go to the Children's Miracle Network Golf tourny, I am just tagging along. Well, since hubby is the king of pickiness in our house, and since he will be spending a couple days watching golf stuff - I think I have found my window of opportunity for trying some of the places that have been vetoed in the past. Hmmmm - now I get to spend the next couple months scanning menus and planning my attack! Can't wait!

sorry, picky eater here, BUT I also like to try new things at Disney. However, the foods I try must fit in categories of types of foods I like.

I hate tomatoes... a very common thing for picky eaters
picky eaters tend to have traits in commons, like textures of foods they dont like etc..

if you are a picky eater and tired of being made fun of, visit the link above. There are more adults out there like that than you realize

I agree it's more a parenting issue with the picky kids. Sure, kids tend to like more bland flavors and less of a variety. But some parents who cater to the "my child can't eat anything except for pizza and nuggets crowd" take it to the extreme.

If a restaurant does not servce grilled cheese or nuggets and that's truly all your child can eat without pitching a fit, go to a restaurant who has something for you already on their menu!

I've had family members accept invitations to our home and bring a pizza (just for their child to eat, not to share with my kids) OR request that I make a grilled cheese OR bring their own box of Kraft mac and cheese for me to prepare for their "picky" child after I've already spent hours preparing a sitdown meal.
Now, when I get such requests, I say, no thanks to more cooking and offer the child peanut butter sandwhich or a bowl of cereal!

Flame suit on

What I don't get.... is why what someone else eats or doesn't eat bothers any of you :confused3

I am a self described "picky eater" and my mom and son are also very picky. I've written serveral dining review entitled "picky eaters....." in fact have one going right now ;) If I can help a fellow picky eater out by providing reviews of which restaurants I found enjoyable why should it bother any of you????

I don't start threads of.... "oh those adventurous eaters" are at it again.... Or write "OMG how could you eat that" on dining review threads but so many of you had no problems or writing "why can't they just try something new" on posts on this and other threads :rolleyes1

I have a very serious food allergy on top of being picky. I have to be careful when ordering so it may take an extra minute or two. So now somehow I am bothering your dining experience :confused3

Really help me understand as I just don't get it :confused3

Agreed. I guess people just like to pick on whatever is different than what they are or what they are used to.

Heck, I can start a million threads about dining habits.
Too slow eating and holding up the line waiting for the table.
People that send back food because they don't like it for some reason. JUST EAT IT AND BE ADVENTUROUS. (;))
Too slow of ordering, holding up MY waiter.
People who get apps and dessert, how dare they take so much time up at that table.
People who linger after they ate at the table. I COME FIRST, GET OUT!!

/sarcasm
:rotfl::rotfl:

I don't care about what people do 99% of the time. I guess I'm not the type that thinks what THEY do has an impact on my dining experience.

I've been lurking here awhile , but this thread is the first one I really felt I had to comment on. I was fairly picky as a child--I had definite likes and dislikes--but I don't think I ever made life that difficult for my parents. And I never made a fuss in a restaurant because I didn't like the menu. There are some things I still will not eat (mushrooms: ewwww), but I can usually find something I like, even in unfamiliar territory.

I did hear recently, on Nova Science NOW, I think it was, that a person's likes and dislikes (of food) are determined by genetics, so it is possible that someone's taste buds are genetically disposed to not like, say, broccoli. (My taste buds love broccoli. :rotfl:) Just my two cents.

Wow, there are some parents on here that seem to think that it's "cute" that their little darlings will eat any and everything that you place in front of them!!! A neighbor of mine is the same way. When her son was 5 years old she bragged about how he ate whatever adults ate; lobster tails, lamb, sushi, calamari, escargot... you name it, he ate it. He is not picky in the least bit she would say....We'll guess who's 100 pounds over weight at the ripe old age of 13??? You guessed it!!! Now my neighbor can't seem to get his diet under control. Just because a child will consume any and everything without regard like a human garbage disposal does not mean that it's healthy....What's wrong with a child being selective about what he/she eats??? If it's ok with his parent then get over it....

I'd like to raise something I haven't seen yet here - some people really don't like food :confused3

DS16 can go 5, 6 hours after getting up without eating. When he was younger he would get a "stomach ache," because he had not wanted to eat all day.
At about age 6 he had a total meltdown at Hersey Park because it had been 6 hours since breakfast and he STILL didn't want to eat. I finally had to shove tuna into his mouth, which he didn't want because there was celery in it.

We always did as most here recommend - it's lunch time, dinner time, etc. this is what we're having. He would decline and NOT WANT ANYTHING. After YEARS of this, we started giving him what he WOULD eat - you guessed it - pizza, chicken nuggets, etc. Only because we knew a meltdown would happen later from having no food in his system!

I still have to remind him to eat before we go somewhere. Oh, BTW - DD13 is a foodie, loves to cook, will try anything. Go figure.

this has reached its end

if you like to try new things, great, good for you

if you prefer simple, same foods, awesome, good for you

tolerance to others is a wonderful thing :)
