oh gosh...Camp Rock 2 is over...what a relief

My 6 year old sister watched it my room.
It was awful did you see how bad the lip syncing was?

My DD had an interesting take on CR2. She said the first movie wasn't really a "musical". Though it did have music, all the performances were performances onstage within the world of the movie. In the sequel, it was a Musical! Everyone sang about their feelings spontaneously! And on top of that, they were all in harmony and unison... complete with liberal solos from Mitchie!!!

(DD wanted to type out her own thoughts about the movie, so here they are....)
Also, Camp Rock was about Mitchie standing up for herself and her friends standing up for themselves. Camp Rock 2 was only the "Mitchie and Shane" show.
And Mitchie's clothes were dumb for summer camp. Who wears a dress with a camp full of poison ivy? Especially when the "core of Camp Rock" (as opposed to Camp Star) was that it was, like, a real summer camp, with like, HIKING and stuff...
Also, still trying to figure out what the plotline was? Did Nate/Nick ever get together with that girl?
Was there ever any question that Mitchie and Shane liked each other? It was inevitable that they would get together by the end? But were they really even dating? Or did they just like each other? He never actually asked her out, not really? There was that whole "moonlit picnic", but that was asked as someone who was already dating would ask it, not as someone who is going on a first date...
And what about the whole "Only one camp will survive"? I mean, they lost? Why didn't they shut down the camp?
And why doesn't Uncle Brown have enough money? He was able to kick out Axel Turner from the band... so wouldn't that have meant that he would have gotten more money because he was in the "hit band" longer??? Plus, if he was able to kick him out, that would probably mean that he was the main songwriter for the band, because they're the ones with the real power... AND if he was the main songwriter, he would have made MORE MONEY than Axel...
And also, wasn't Shane a counselor or instructor or WHATEVER in the first movie? So why is it a surprise that he would be one again in the second?
And Nate/Nick and Shane/Joe and Jason/Kevin weren't brothers in the first one... because Camp Rock was where "Connect 3 connected". How could that be where they met if they were already brothers?...
The name "Axel Turner" was funny though.

(This is "agnes! again)
In my opinion Camp Rock was refreshing. And Camp Rock 2? To me it was just kind of High School Musical Rehashed. It basically turned into our house version of "Mystery Theatre 3000" last night.

DD has been so excited about it. she wasn't that thrilled with the first one, but loves the HSM movies. i think the nonstop commercials are what built her excitement. and that she's now a fan of demi lovato.

i look at it like this: it's clean. i don't have to worry that they are going to do or say anything i don't want her to hear.

so, yes, the disney channel movies are a little cheesy, but if she enjoys them, that's fine with me. i'd rather her watch something that's pure, clean fun.

Don't forget about the encore presentation tonight...with the words to sing along to! :goodvibes

My DD8 loved it, but she did mention that the song Nick (don't remember his name in the movie) sang to the girl he liked sounded exactly like "Lovebug". And pointed out that he was lip synching. :)

DD also should be a detective. There was something about a song from the movie that bothered us and she figured it out right away.

Anyone here know the song "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz?

Anyone notice how "Introducing Me" (the one about him that Nick sings to his love interest) sounds just like it?

If the person who wrote the music to "I'm Yours" didn't get songwriting credit *and* royalties for "Introducing Me" they got screwed.

Also, Camp Rock was about Mitchie standing up for herself and her friends standing up for themselves. Camp Rock 2 was only the "Mitchie and Shane" show. Agreed!

And Mitchie's clothes were dumb for summer camp. Who wears a dress with a camp full of poison ivy? Especially when the "core of Camp Rock" (as opposed to Camp Star) was that it was, like, a real summer camp, with like, HIKING and stuff...Not only that, because they made the movie during our Ontario winter weather (brrr!), they wore fall/winter clothes, yet it was supposed to be summer camp. Vacation with Derek produced at the same time, yet they were made to wear summer clothes and suck on ice cubes in order to stop breath from showing as it was supposed to be August! Disney dropped the ball here for sure!

Also, still trying to figure out what the plotline was? Did Nate/Nick ever get together with that girl? Same with us...what was the plotline, besides a camp showdown?

Was there ever any question that Mitchie and Shane liked each other? It was inevitable that they would get together by the end? But were they really even dating? Or did they just like each other? He never actually asked her out, not really? There was that whole "moonlit picnic", but that was asked as someone who was already dating would ask it, not as someone who is going on a first date...This was beyond silly. You mean to tell me that in an entire year, they couldn't connect somehow for a date? Seriously! They definitely acted weird around each other as well, considering they had been communicating for an entire year. Not sure what the deal was with this?

And what about the whole "Only one camp will survive"? I mean, they lost? Why didn't they shut down the camp?I think it was because whichever camp lost, would lose campers, and thus couldn't stay open. They didn't actually mean someone was closing their doors - they are private camps, who rely on campers to stay afloat;therefore, whichever camp won, would draw in more campers the next year. Since the Camp Star campers asked to come over, and they said the phones were ringing with registrations for next summer, they would stay open, as finances wouldn't be a problem as they had campers.

AND if he was the main songwriter, he would have made MORE MONEY than Axel...Again, I think it was because without campers, he couldn't keep the camp afloat. He knew that Axel had unlimited funds, and knew he couldn't compete with that, and also knew that kids and parents would be suckered in to falling for that type of camp experience.

And also, wasn't Shane a counselor or instructor or WHATEVER in the first movie? So why is it a surprise that he would be one again in the second? He wasn't an actual counsellor - he was forced to be there because he was misbehaving, so going to spend time there was a punishment, as well as a finding himself experience. He did teach a dance class, but he wasn't an actual full time instructor, like in CR 2.

And Nate/Nick and Shane/Joe and Jason/Kevin weren't brothers in the first one... because Camp Rock was where "Connect 3 connected". How could that be where they met if they were already brothers?...This was the most ridiculous thing! My DD7 noticed right away that Brown said his, "...nephews." How can they be not related in CR1, but they are in CR2? You are misunderstood in terms of how the band met from CR1 though - they were bandmates already in a group called Connect 3, as you mentioned. They didn't meet at camp, they already knew each other before. Shane called them to camp to play the new song that he wrote for the band, while hanging out at camp.

The name "Axel Turner" was funny though. So funny!

Totally HSM - did you recognize the glasses tinkling effect, like they did in HSM2 in the kitchen dance scene?

It's all lip synching - they do the voice track independently, and add it in during editing. The trick is to match up the video and audio in perfect symmetry, but when you have someone singing or speaking too fast, like Nick in that scene, sometimes they don't match. He sang too fast for the audio portion, and didn't sing fast enough during the actual scene, so that's why it looked like that. Can't believe they missed that in editing? We noticed it right away too.

We have seen it like 3 times since last night, and will be watching it again in 1 hour when my nieces come over. There is good music in it, and the kids liked it, so that's ok by us, but they did seem to miss some things - seemed rushed in places, and downright cheesy in other places.

I noticed that when watching last night! I actually had to rewind that scene and watch it again, because I was like "what does this sound like...what does this sound like....oh! I'm Yours!"

My DD says that she remembers the backstory was the three boys met at Camp Rock *before* the first movie took place. Jason/Kevin says "Camp Rock is where 'Connect 3' connected".

Hey, I even found the line here-->> http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Camp_Rock

my favorite part when they they show Jason building his bird house under the table...after asking shane for one many times in Camp Rock 1

Im not sure if they new each other before Camp but they said that Camp Rock is where the connected...

ok I found a site that says they are brothers in Camp Rock 2 but not sure if they were in Camp Rock 1

I fell asleep. DD15 hated it and DD7 loved it. But then again she loves Nick and Frankie. I won't watch it again. Torture.

Shane just said " the reason I am here, the reason my brothers are here"

so they are definitely brother's in the second.

I always thought that the "Where Connect 3, connected" line meant that it was at Camp Rock when they decided to form the band Connect 3. Kind of like, they have always been brothers, but there had to be a moment when they decided to become The Jonas Brothers.

Sorry, for the confusion. I meant that they probably had been to Camp Rock as campers, and decided to form the band after that period, but that's from the 1st movie, as you mentioned. I thought you were meaning CR 2. Sorry for that.

We thought the birdhouse was a good connection between CR1 and CR2 as well! They are definitely brothers in the 2nd movie, but they were not in the first. In the first movie, they say to Shane a line about "...your Uncle Brown." Yet all of a sudden in CR2, they are all brothers, as Brown calls them his "nephews". There was none of that in CR1. I guess Disney thinks we forget the storyline from CR1. LOL!

Shane just said " the reason I am here, the reason my brothers are here"

Yup, definitely in CR2, but not CR1.

Exactly. They met as campers, became friends, talked about their dreams of starting a rock band, and then probably formed the group sometime after that. They don't tell us this, but it would make sense that it happened this way.

Haven't I seen this movie before? Disney is so unoriginal in regards to it's tv channel programs. :x

Funny thing: my sister recorded it but since it went over she missed the ending. :P

It wasn't that bad, but it certainly wasn't good. There were a lot of points where I really had no idea what was going on.

Gosh, I'm pretty lame. I actually enjoyed all the hype and watching it with my kiddos. Of course, watching my kids dance around the room was half the fun, but I enjoyed the movie. :confused3
Mine are 8 & 6 now. Actually came looking for the best deal on the DVD...

The movie premiered less then 48 hours ago and DD is watching it for the 4th time!! In her defense, she hasn't seen the whole movie yet.

This 15-year-old girl really likes Camp Rock. Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam was.. to say the least, horrible. The music sounded like it was written by a 5-to-10-year-old, the plot was stupid (and not all of the subplots were resolved!). It was just awful. There is one good thing I can say about it: I loved the line where they said Camp Star was a "narcisistic, over-produced ego factory." But that's the only good thing I can say.
