Oh. Dear Lord, Boma's

I love BOMA and try to eat there at least twice on every trip I make to DW usually 3-4 times a year. I usually do not like to eat a buffet but I find the food at BOMA to be very well prepared - fresh - not sitting on steam tables. The soups/stews are outstanding, along with the salads. I love the prime-rib which is typical buffet fare - but the sauces the BOMA mustard and BBQ sauces are wonderful. I enjoy it much more than JIKO as I always seem to order the wrong thing at JIKO. After three times I have given up on JIKO. :earsgirl:

We love Boma, both for breakfast and dinner. I do realize how to many threads about how amazing something is can really raise expectations so high that people will invariably be disappointed. The one thing at Boma we found a bit of a letdown was the Zebra Domes. They're nice, but not spectacular. The "Coconut Cava Cake" which I have never really seen mentioned is wonderful though. It's a bit more like pudding than cake, and we both love it.

We are thinking about Boma's on our next trip - is it at AKL? Can we just get a bus there from Animal Kingdom and how long does it take? I'm sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find it. Thanks!!

Catch the Animal Kingdom Lodge bus at the Animal Kingdom. It is about a five minute ride. Enjoy your meal at Boma!

We LOOOVE Boma! We didn't go on our last trip because we wanted to make room for new discoveries, so I really miss it now. Won't get to go back until our next trip, which is such a long time away!!!

Wow! Thanks for sharing that, editoria! When we dined at Boma, we saw a table getting something special from the chef. We were confused, because we knew you could not order from a menu...so what were these people getting? We were very envious! I will hope for some of that pixie dust to float my way next time I visit Boma!

Just an FYI. While there may be times where the head chef creates something at whim, the vast majority of the time you see someone getting something special it's because they have special dietary needs that limits what they can have on the buffet.

DH is allergic to certain tree nuts. I had them make a note on our reservation and when we arrived the chef came out and reviewed the entire buffet with DH, telling him what he could have, what had nuts, and what to avoid due to cross-contamination. He told him to avoid desserts all-together and that he would make him something special. I felt so bad that we couldn't stay for dessert. I had just walked the 1/2 marathon that day (last year) and I literally fell asleep at the table. We were also getting paged that there was a problem with the kids in Simba's clubhouse (childcare). We're planning a trip for next December and I will definitely be making an ADR for BOMA.

One other thing, if you have young children (over 4yrs) who are very picky, you might want to think about putting them in the childcare center at AKL. If they go during dinner time they get fed a kids meal. There's no additional charge for the food. The way we looked at it, is that the child care was costing us $40 for two hours for our twins. But, if they came to the buffet it would have cost us $20. Therefore, the childcare really only cost $20 for two hours. I also felt more comfortable doing it because we were in the same building.

I just ate there on my last trip. It was the worst meal that I have ever had on Disney property! Everything was just nasty and full of spices. Our CM was great and kept trying to bring me plates of food that I might like. It was gross! I will never eat dinner there again. If you like simple normal food, I wouldn't recommend this one!!!

Oh, and I did love breakfast there! I will be back for breakfast, just not dinner!

Even though I didnt enjoy Boma it was because the food wasnt authentic or spicy enough. Didnt you realise before going that the food from most African countries, especially the North African nations is very spicy? 'Normal' food is different things to different people so there is no one standard. I thought that the quality of the food was very good - it was the authenticity as I said before that disappointed me.

One time we went to Boma and we were just sitting there minding our own business when once of the chef's comes out and asks if we are the "Cass" party...

I say 'yes' and he sits down this platter with chocolate covered strawberries, a chocolate elephant & a solid chocolate AKL picture frame and tells us to enjoy!

We were getting some looks from the other tables, bust honestly, I have no idea why we recieved this. :goodvibes

We didn't think it spicy enough either...especially the spicy Durban chicken...it wasn't spicy at all...it was just really dry. However, my mom thought the spice they did use was awful. Well, it wasn't to her liking. I found too many of the dishes to be just starchy and our waitress even commented that we should only take small portions of everything since the dishes tended to be starchy. Ummm...ok...not exactly what we were looking for...

Don't get us wrong...we eat all kinds of stuff. We're actually not meat and potatos people. Boma was just not for us. We decided to try it because of the rave reviews on the Dis boards. LOL Now we know. Everybody has different tastes.

Just as there are people who didn't like O'Hana, there are those of us who didn't have great experiences at Boma.

BTW, while our waitress was very nice and friendly, she was, perhaps too friendly. When she found out we were from Toronto she started telling us a story about the only Toronto person she knew...some con man who was in jail for scamming all his friends in Toronto and how he had befriended her and blah blah blah. LOL...ummmm...ok... we thought it amusing but not exactly what we would consider a typical conversation in WDW. :rotfl2:

I am loving this thread! We are undecided about trying Boma since we are staying @ AKL the first night there next month. The next day starts our dining plan so this would be OOP (Out of Pocket) and weren't sure it would be smart for us to try something so "Out of our element" with the kids.

I am convinced! LOL

BOMA HERE WE COME! Feb. 13th I have ADR's for 6:20---so say HI! If anyone sees me *there will be 5 of us, 2 women--2 young girls and a 5 year old boy. :)

Dh and i really enjoyed Boma, but i was a little disappointed with the meat, the chicken was dry and beef tuff. DD 11 and i love the 'crab soup stuff" as she calls it. Burned our throat, but we loved it. :confused3 The rest of the kids didn't care for it either. <insert pizza and nuggets here> Dh and i would go back with 11 yr old DD but the rest voted not going. So we will chose a new place.

We had our first Boma meal on Thursday. Because we were a party of ten with so many different food preferences, there were members of our group who would choose not to eat there again. I loved the food, and tried as many of the dishes as I could without rolling out. Okay, I did roll out, but I needed to try some of the coconut tiramisu.

I think that the chefs try to please their guests, and are available during the meal. As I meandered through the buffet, more than one chef discussed the choices, and made suggestions to try.

I agree that not everyone will enjoy this meal, but it can be certainly well worth trying.

Ok Maggs, if you want to get technical about it. I was told by a vegetarian that it was her favorite place to eat and that she wanted to eat dinner there. Being the nice person that I am, I gave in and said sure. (Mind you that I didn’t get to eat at ANY of my favorite places.) She assured me that I would find something there to eat. I didn’t. I ate some hummus. TJ did his special thing and brought us a huge plate of ribs and shrimp. My co-worker, being a vegetarian, didn’t want any of it so I was stuck making it look like we tried it. The meat was terribly dry and covered with who knows what. The shrimp weren’t too bad, but they did have some spice on it that I didn’t like.

Like I said it was the worst meal that I have ever eaten on Disney property. It is JMHO. And I wanted the members of the boards who are also reading this to hear everyone’s opinion, good or bad.

It's funny and perhaps it's my selective memory but I can't recall all that many veggies in the buffet unless they were in a salad of some sort.

And yes, the meat I had was dry. I tried some pork tenderloin in some kind of sweet sauce. It was dry and the sauce was ick to me.

Maybe we hit it on a bad day or something. I would have loved to have tried the ribs and shrimp he brought out. Sounds more appetizing than what was on the buffet tables when we were there.

Like I said earlier though...I loved their desserts. They were all really bad for you though...lots of cream, coconut and all kinds of unhealthy delights. ;)

Well I am very excited to try Boma in April - when I made our reservation I asked them to note that my DD is allergic to nuts and is a vegetarian - they said they could only note one thing but were kind enough to give me the phone number so that I could call that day and notify them. I am hoping that they will make something special for her - she would love it - she normally eats only a salad at the buffets.. I do have a question - what are Zebra Domes??

I thought the same thing too! But she did manage to have a couple full plates. I don't remember if she had salad or not.

The desserts were ok. Can you go and just eat dessert?

Zebra Domes are a chocolate covered cappuccino mousse and cake deconated with stripes like a zebra...absolutely delicious! Bite sized, so you really should take more than one... ;)

Our first trip to Boma was based on rave reviews and I thought it was okay. Just okay. Service was okay, food was okay...

We tried it again last trip and Oh...my...goodness...

We sat much closer to the center of everything...our server was fantastic...we tried everything. I loved it and we're going back next trip already. Our server told us to try the carrot ginger soup and for some reason I did (I don't like carrots OR ginger) and it was amazing! Like warm melted ice cream or something. Just yummy. DH is a meat and potatoes guy and he finds enough to keep him happy while I graze my way through.

Add me to the list of Boma fans...yum!!!

Boma is our #1 stop! the food is so good! The soups at dinner, the sausage bake at breakfast! What's not to love! :earsboy:

I made Frunch.

I made frunch over the holidays. It was easy. As I am in Texas, I didn't have any problems finding all the juices. The pinapple juice concentrate was with the orange juice in the freezer section. The mango juice was with the canned nectars. Actually, all I could find was mango nectar. I think with mango being a "thicker" fruit, all it has is nectar...I could be wrong.
