Went to Oga’s today for the second time since it reopened. I found out some new information and have some thoughts I wanted to share. I’d love to hear from others who have been recently, especially if you went before COVID as well.
1. Oga’s is taking walk-ups via a virtual wait list. It’s pretty wide open so if you couldn’t get a reservation but want to go you should be able to. The CM today said you can join any time and it’s usually 30 minutes or less until you’re called.
2. You can add one person to your reservation when checking in. I added my mom today no problem. I bet you could add an additional person or two if you ask. The place was NOT full. Which leads me to my next musing.
3. Oga’s felt strangely empty the two times I went (6/17 and 7/6). Either they are purposely not filling it or people are not interested.
4. The vibe is markedly low key compared to the past. The music is low…. So low you barely hear it. The DJ used to do a lot and now he really just plays the music. Never heard the Star Wars cantina song either visit (always a huge crowd pleaser). Oga’s used to be BUMPING. The sound and energy spilled outside and made you want to be inside! Now it’s just kind of boring? I don’t know, it’s so weird! Oga’s used to be my favorite so I don’t know what is happening here.
5. The drinks are smaller but more expensive. Beerblue milk (Blue Bantha) are smaller. They also changed the cookie on top of the Blue Bantha. The old one was SO GOOD! The new one is not great. It’s not sweet. My son gave it to me after he ate about half and said he was “done” (highly unusual for him!).
Final thoughts: We were seated in a booth today … a first for me in about five-plus visits. It was so nice to sit down! Getting a booth is luck but we were happy!
Oga’s used to be a “must do” for me. After today (and a few weeks ago) I feel like I’m going to skip it from now on unless the atmosphere goes back to what it was before (which was really fun!). I’ll save my money for something else!
