Oga’s Cantina … Info and my experience

Went to Oga’s today for the second time since it reopened. I found out some new information and have some thoughts I wanted to share. I’d love to hear from others who have been recently, especially if you went before COVID as well.

1. Oga’s is taking walk-ups via a virtual wait list. It’s pretty wide open so if you couldn’t get a reservation but want to go you should be able to. The CM today said you can join any time and it’s usually 30 minutes or less until you’re called.

2. You can add one person to your reservation when checking in. I added my mom today no problem. I bet you could add an additional person or two if you ask. The place was NOT full. Which leads me to my next musing.

3. Oga’s felt strangely empty the two times I went (6/17 and 7/6). Either they are purposely not filling it or people are not interested.

4. The vibe is markedly low key compared to the past. The music is low…. So low you barely hear it. The DJ used to do a lot and now he really just plays the music. Never heard the Star Wars cantina song either visit (always a huge crowd pleaser). Oga’s used to be BUMPING. The sound and energy spilled outside and made you want to be inside! Now it’s just kind of boring? I don’t know, it’s so weird! Oga’s used to be my favorite so I don’t know what is happening here.

5. The drinks are smaller but more expensive. Beerblue milk (Blue Bantha) are smaller. They also changed the cookie on top of the Blue Bantha. The old one was SO GOOD! The new one is not great. It’s not sweet. My son gave it to me after he ate about half and said he was “done” (highly unusual for him!).

Final thoughts: We were seated in a booth today … a first for me in about five-plus visits. It was so nice to sit down! Getting a booth is luck but we were happy!

Oga’s used to be a “must do” for me. After today (and a few weeks ago) I feel like I’m going to skip it from now on unless the atmosphere goes back to what it was before (which was really fun!). I’ll save my money for something else!

Well that is a bummer. We would like to go on our upcoming trip but a big part of the appeal is the music and overall crowd feel.

thanks for this feedback.

I wonder if they are having some of the same staffing issues as other areas in the park and so purposely keeping the amount of people down.

I went for the first time at WDW in november and the capacity was very limited. We had a whole booth to ourself. Then went a couple weeks ago at DLR and they had a lot more people allowed in and we shared a booth with another small party (which we didn't mind). Drinks appeared to be the same size as WDW and the prices were similar but not the same. Music was not very loud for us either and from what I have seen pre covid they definitely packed it in a lot more back then.

We tried the walk up waitlist every day for 4 days Friday-Monday and never got in. Always said "walk up waitlist is full."

I'm sure they are keeping the numbers down still as a COVID precaution. As for the music, not sure on that one?

I was there with a group of friend on 6/27 and had the opposite experience.
Yes, the music is lower but it was FESTIVE and packed with people. Pumping with energy. Everyone was ordering the fun drinks that were the tasting beer flight or the collectible mugs. The bartenders were all in character and in rare salty form. Super fun!3753A23D-EBB5-4A74-8DE2-78C44C636577.jpeg3F982DEE-5BCD-4817-B7B0-C92C679856D4.jpeg

I have never been inside, been checking several times a day for an opening on the 16th! Fingers crossed!

I’m glad to hear this! It’s how I remembered it from before COVID times. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky.

Keeping the music down could be a COVID precaution. Softer music = less need to yell and spray droplets as much.
But it's weird that it seems to vary from day to day.
As for the walk up queue -- do you join yourself via the app or do you literally walk up to a CM and get assigned to it, if there's room?
We do have one Oga's reservation, but will be there long enough I could see us going back depending on availability and how much we like it.

ETA: That cookie looks great. Too bad the taste didn't measure up. :(

Disney has abandoned all COVID precautions so I don’t think that’s it. Staffing sounds like it could be the more likely culprit!
The old cookies was so good. This one is so strange!
Here’s the old one for reference:

This makes me feel like we+are going to be able to get in as a walk up, thanks. I have been trying since June 14 at 4am to get reservations to no avail.

So if you are just going to go and have a drink, I'm thinking I'm probably good to skip getting a reservation? Just see if I can get on the waitlist? I'm going October 7 which I'm thinking might be a little less busy since school will be back in session.

Hard to say what the Magic Key will do to crowds but on Touring Plans crowd calendar today's a level 4 and October 7 is a 2 (out of 10) there's currently a 15min wait for walkup according to the app so it feels promising that you'll be OK on your trip. Particularly if staffing continues to grow. However, there's no upside to skipping a reservation other than avoiding the potential stress of making one and then being tied to that timeslot (loosely tied, official cancelation policy is 24 hours I believe but I've never been charged as long as we actually cancel, even at the reservation time, rather than just no-show, and that's for more lucrative reservations at the restaurants).

I'd definitely get a reservation if possible. The wait list is often not available.

Also, anyone making Disneyland crowd predictions right now has no idea what they're talking about. There's simply no way of predicting AT ALL how the crowds will behave - Covid, Magic Keys, OBB, staffing... so many new variables...
