So I'm planning for my trip next year and planning on renting a villa or a house with a pool. We are not planning on doing any of the parks, just DTD and enjoying some of the Orlando area. I have always stayed onsite except one time we went with DH's family:scared1: and stayed in a home and just traveled to the parks. I hated it! More so probably from the company, but I did miss the Disney "magic". Next year we thought it would be very relaxing to have a home with a pool and since we weren't planning on parks I wouldn't be missing the "magic". My question is what is the best area closer to Disney? Is a home better than a villa? I'm looking for a 3-4 bedrooms for my familiy of 5. Thanks for all your help!!

We have never stayed onsite, but loovvvee having a pool home when we go. Alot of the houses are called "villa's" or so I have found. I think the closer ones to the parks are Windsor Hills, Formosa Gardens...probably a few others that other posters can fill you in with. When we go we do Disney, this year are doing a day at Universal and then just spend the rest of the days relaxing, shopping, chillin' by the pool!! Since you are not planning on doing Disney I would say don't be limited by the communities closest to the parks....you can get some great deals and some amazing houses a bit farther out. Start checking VRBO.com and homeaway.com. Both allow you to enter criteria such as dates, # of bedrooms, etc. A good place to start your search. Have fun!!

We just returned from a 7 night stay at Windsor Palms. We had a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house with a private pool. It was really nice and the price was fantastic. It may actually be hard to stay on-site in the future knowing the ammenties that we can get by staying a few miles off-site at a fraction of the cost. I didn't feel like we missed out on any "magic" at all.
